Welcome to the forum, Karmaduck!
I got a question for you. What would you rate Planetes on a scale of 1-10? It's an anime on my "want to watch" list.

Kamaduck--
Welcome to the fora! Just F.Y.I.: I have been meaning to finish the Ender series, it is just that I have not gotten around to finishing it yet! How did you first come across the series?

It depends what you're judging it by. I'd give it a ten out of ten in terms of personal love and as an example of hard science fiction done right. However, it's not necessarily action-packed. There are a lot of exciting moments, great characters, great setting, great science... but if you come expecting tons of explosions and plot twists, you'll be dissappointed. You should get a good idea what the series is like from the first few episodes. I definitely recommend it, but I can't guarantee you'll love it, if that makes sense? (I reeeeally want to finish this... )

My mom gave me the first book in sixth grade, and I fell in love with it! The end of the series is good, but it's not quite as good as the beginning, IMO. But if you haven't read the shadow series (the books about Bean and the other battle-schoolers), you really must! They're probably less profound and inventive than the first two Ender books, but they use the internet a lot and show what would happen if every country in the world suddenly got its hands on a couple of military geniuses (not good things ).

8-9 for writing, 7 for ambition/excitement.
I liked it but I don't remember the ending. It's fairly consistent but definitely not what I'd want when in a good mood, just while bored.

But seriously folks...
I've been an anime fan for about 4 years, seen maybe 20 series or so, been to 2 conventions, but didn't do the cosplay thing.
I'm probably the oldest person here. Trying to stay young at heart.
I'm a musician, among other things, so that may explain why I never grew up.
Hey Wiizard, fellow noob, nice music selection! Especially the composers list, but I'd put Beethoven much higher up the list.

Thanks Alan45.
Serious competition? Bring 'em on! hahaha
I guess a list of some of my favorite animes would be appropriate here: Nodame Cantabile, Honey and Clover, Haibane Renmei, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Aria, Chobits, Kids On The Slope, Seirei No Moribito, Hanasaku Iroha. Just finished Sword Art Online.
Crazy mix, huh?

Well, you got me beat by a bit. I was born in 56 and thus I am 56.

Um, I won't go there.
Actually you are not alone in your age group here. Check out the polls forum, we have on on how old you were when you got into anime.
If you have been doing this for 4 years that makes you about the same age I was when I started, but that was awhile ago.

Geez, is ANN becoming the Shady Acres Retirement Home??? 47-year-old here checking in and feeling like a young pup all of a sudden.
SixString, we have a similar experience in that I've only gotten into anime in the last 4 years or so myself. I wonder if we (and Alan45) are the tip of the "late-in-life anime converts" iceberg?
Anyway, welcome to ANN and don't feel bad about waving your cane at the youngins and telling them to get off your lawn.

I've been watching since I was little, but I really got into anime and manga... in 2008, when I discovered Hunter x Hunter on TV!
Also, S!xString, I would explain why I put Beethoven so low, but it would create a tl;dr sorta post, so I'll say this: It's there because reasons
On that note still, I tried to get into Nodame, but it was too shoujo for my taste... the animation is really pretty though, it really seems like they're playing those instruments!
