My one friend is having a tough time finding manga that she likes--can you list me some manga that you think she'd really like? Question

She likes: Tokyo Mew Mew, Peach Fuzz (not manga, but oh well), Phoenix, Cyborg 009, Nausicaa, FMA, and alot of American superhero comics like Superman and the Hulk.

*She will automatically turn down ANYTHING with blood or realistic violence. (so RuroKen, Naruto, Bleach, Blade of Immortal, etc. are out of the question)

If she's able to find any copies, I suggest Sailor Moon. I would also suggest Alice 19th. I'm not sure if your friend would want to read Ceres or Fushigi Yugi since both of those deal with some rather tough issues: spoiler[rape, incest, teen pregnancy, murder of family members...]

I would also suggest Sakura Taisen, Cardcaptor Sakura & Angelic Layer, they're all good too.

Hope you find something that she likes!

Does anyone beside me see a contradiction here? Doesnt Ed lose 2 limbs at the beggining of FMA? Doesnt Hulk, in a special crossover, rip Wolverine in half? She can look over those 2 massive, violent and blood filled scenes (OK, maybe not so much "filled" but it DOES occur) but is turned away from a typical shounen like Naruto, and basically not very bloody Bleach. What`s her problem?

But anyways, I will second Sailor Moon. TMM is basically a modern version of it. They didn't really try to hide it. I would also reccomend simply shoujo titles. I dont really read any but Honey and Clover is a great manga which I love to death. Other titles such as KareKano, Hana yori Dango or maybe some Aishiteruze Baby should be right up her alley. Good luck!

I would agree with Salior Moon. Maybe your friend will also like Dream Saga. I haven't personally read it but they might end up liking it (and when I flipped through it I didn't see any blood). I also greatly agree with Angelic Layer, I loved that series- Go Hikaru! Lastly, I am not sure about this one, but your friend could try Man of Many Faces- you never know, your friend could end up liking it.

I wish the best of luck to your friend!!!

She likes FMA but doesn't like blood what?? Well I would probably say she would be happy with shojo titles. If she's looking for something like Nausicaa I would go with Planetes.

Hmmm, I would agree with the suggestion to look into shoujo titles, although as with anything else it's going to be somewhat hit or miss. Below are some suggestions that may be a good place to start.

From Far Away is an excellent fantasy story that does a lot of things right with the whole "girl in another world/time period" storyline. There is some violence, but I wouldn't exactly classify it as realistic or overly excessive. The bulk of the story is a fantasy adventure with a good dose of romance thrown in to make things interesting.

I would second the recommendations of Alice 19th and Aishiteruze Baby; both are excellent series.

Another possibility that hasn't been mentioned is Crossroad, which is released by goComi. There are currently two volumes available, and it's an excellent story about family issues.

On the shounen end of things, you might want to suggest Hikaru no Go. Yes, it's about playing a board game, but the characters are a lot of fun, and I know lots of people who really like the series.

I do have to agree that your friend's tastes seem a bit contradictory, but I suppose that's her perogative. It's still somewhat odd though, that she should reject some series for blood and violence, but willingly read other series.

*thinks* On the American/OEL end of things, I would recommend ElfQuest and Dramacon.

Yes, he does. And it was BADASS looking, I might add. Can't recall, but off the top of my head, I believe it was a 2-page spread.

Anyway, I second Alice 19th, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Angelic Layer. I'll throw Magic Knight Rayearth, Tsubasa, and Wish onto that list as well, but don't stray into Clamp's bloodier works such as X or RG Veda. And your friend's supposed tastes are completey hypocritical nearly to the point of idiocy, so I'd suggest to her to be a little more open to trying new things as well.

Was this a while back or recently? I remember about a month ago I saw the cover for Ultimate Wolvering Vs. the Hulk and Wolverine being ripped in half on the cover.

The only manga in my collection that doesn't have violence is FLCL. If she liked the series, then this will do. It's better to actually have knowledge on the series because the manga does a bad job explaining most of the events and character relationships that have been established in the anime. It's only 2 volumes so it's not too big of a commitment.

Yeah, it was the ultimate Wolverine. I know he got ripped in half cause even today I am an avid X-men fan Razz But this is offtopic.

As for some other titles I would recommend Beck. It`s a manga about the world of underground/indy rock in Japan. Beck`s an amazing read with deep characters, a great plot and a suficient dosage fo realism to make you beleive this is how "the biz" actually looks and works like Smile

If she likes Cyborg 009, I would reccomend alot of the old Osamu Tezuka stuff, especially since Shotaro Ishinomori, the creator of Cyborg 009, was his apprentice and pretty much inherited his art style.

I'd reccomend Astro Boy.......as well as Phoenix, and Buddha is also quite good.

It seems she likes "cute" manga. If so, DiGi Charat and whatever else that artist has done is a good venture. Angelic Layer wouldn't be a bad choice either. It's a mixture between action and shoujo, so that should follow her tastes. It has action, pretty costumes, and no blood.
