Hello, the end of my Shojo Beat subscription is getting near, and I was wondering if there are any subscribers here who are planning to renew and why/why not?
Personally, I'm not planning to renew my subscription unless, things REALLY picks up on my remaining issues because, so far, there are only about two stories that actually interests me in the magazine so I'd rather buy the graphic novels than pay 30 something dollars to read a chapter each month. Plus, Shojo Beat is getting thinner and thinner each month compared to my issues of Shonen Jump, which futher discourage me from renewing.

I mulled over it a bit and decided to go ahead an renew because other than NANA none of the stories strike me as own worthy. But I do want to continue reading them. I figured that would be the case and that's why I suscribed in the first place. If they raise the price next time, and it stays the same as it is now, no deal. It's not worth it.

I have a subscription which actually just started, but I fully intend to keep picking the magazine up, since I do really enjoy it. I'm utterly in love with anything Watase, so I've been enjoying Absolute Boyfriend, and NANA of course is great. I also like Crimson Hero, though not enough that I would buy it as a seperate volume, which I am doing for both Absolute Boyfriend and NANA. Baby and Me is cute enough and even though I'm not really into Godchild, it has enough to keep me somewhat interested.

I don't bother reading the other one, since the only way I could do that would be to force myself.

I also do like the previews, it's nice to see other titles, even if so far none of the previews have inspired me to actually buy anything.

I really enjoy Shoujo Beat and look forward to it coming each month, I definitely don't see any reason why I wouldn't renew the subscription, especially since I'm not getting any other anime/manga magazines.

Godchild bores me to tears, and Kaze Hikaru is hit-or-miss, but I really enjoy all of the other titles, and plan to renew. :)

I don't understand why everyone seems to hate Baby and Me so much though. It's an adorable story about growing up. People call it too childish, but I see far, FAR more depth in Baby and Me than Godchild. (*cough* You can guess which series I want to see dropped from the magazine. XD )

I really love Baby and Me and Nana.

I also like Godchild and Kaze Hikaru.

I used to read Absolute Boyfriend, but it's started to wear on me.

If they had a really good volume pulblication schedule, then I'd be less inclined to buy Shojo Beat.

I am following and enjoying all of the series (Baby & Me less than the others, but as long as its there, I might as well read it) so I'm going to renew my subscription.

I've picked up Shoujo Beat for the last two months and plan to keep doing so. I didn't bother subscribing, because I don't want my issues getting beat up in the mail, and they're no other real perks to it. I adore Baby and Me, NANA and Absolute Boyfriend, I usually skip the other two, Godchild and Kaze Hikaru(I think it's called anyways). I also enjoy the articles, and hope that they start including furokus in the magazine. I wish I had knew that the drug store sold it in January, I want that calendar!

Agreed. Baby & Me is my favorite series in the magazine, by a long shot. I'm probably going to let my subscription run out and put the money toward importing the Japanese version of Baby & Me. Razz I've already read Absolute Boyfriend, and don't care for the other series enough to continue getting the magazine. I loved Nana about three years ago, but I kind of lost interest in it back then, too.

For those that like Baby & Me, I highly highly recommend Aishiteruze Baby that is going to be release on April 11 by Viz.

It has a similar concept, but done so much so much better. I'm not a big fan of Baby & Me because I think it's corny and the baby + his brother are really annoying brats. Aishiteruze's kid is more adorable and mature for her age. Her older brother is a much more likeable character and his problem is something that I can relate to more. This will probably one of the few shoujo title I buy.

The main characters in Aishiteruze Baby are actually cousins. I followed the manga when it ran in Ribon and enjoyed it quite a bit, but it drags on for too long and a few really unnessecary characters pop in and out in what feels like an attempt at stretching out the story simply for stretching out the story. I like both series a lot, though I think what I've read so far of Baby & Me is at least more believable.

I never subscribed, but I did pick up the magazines every month, until a couple of months ago, when I decided the only story I was interested in was NANA. Kaze Hikaru was good, but not that good, Godchild was severly disappointing, Baby & Me was good, but nothing extraordinary, Absolute Boyfriend is as boring as every other Yuu Watase manga I've ever read, and Crimson Hero was good, but suffers the fate of Kaze Hikaru and Baby & Me. I'll put that money towards their graphic novel line for series like:

I loved the anime, and I imagine this might be why I wasn't very interested in Baby & Me, since I much preferred Aishiteruze Baby. I can't wait to read the manga.

Shoujo Beat did a preview for Aishiteruze Baby, and it looked really, REALLY good. i'm going to pick up that volume one when it gets out.

And for those who don't like Baby and Me, it's gonna be in SB for a loooong time. 18 volumes of manga to be serialized.

I'm probably not going to renew since my subscribe that roll over from animerica ended. The only manga I was really interested was Nana.

the little one kept calling her cousin as older brother, so it totally slip my mind.

I'm an artwhore when it comes to Kaori Yuki, so seeing Cain in print finally and in English is one of the highlights for me with the magazine. Viz just did a seriously dumb move with starting with the 2nd Cain series, so unless the readers have been with the manga since scanlations or Japan, they know zilch about what's going on with Cain. Without the backstory and all the character development that already has been done, people are left in the dark while Kaori does episodic chapter after episodic chatper until she gets to the story arcs.

I like Shoujobeat, and all my friends like borrowing my issues. Some of the manga I didn't like at first, but they've grown on me with the exception of Baby and Me. I just can't get into it due to the fact there's so many better written slice of life manga out there that touch the same subject, and with much better art, so I've been spoiled. It also doesn't fit in with the rest of the magazine theme-wise.

Also, I think the articles need a lot of work, especially the music section.

But the manga and the the random preview chapters they do make the magazine worth it, so I'll be renewing.

I agree that the stories really have finally grown on to me, especially in these past few issues. Maybe I'll finally change my mind about not renewing. Maybe. My subscription still have a couple of issues in it until it finally ends, so we'll see how it goes.
