Mine would be samurai champloo also, because of the attitude I believe Shinichiro Wantabe brings to the anime. It's really original and I think quite genius. The way he sort of says he doesn’t care what people think about his interpretation of ancient Japan I find inspiring. Also the characters in champloo really come across well. All bringing out complete differences in one another but still getting along. Mugen is well just simple a work of art. i love his "don’t give a rats ass" attitude and especially like they way he handles the authorities, damn cool guy.
So once more samurai champloo cause its doesn’t give a **** about anyone else lol

I would have to agree with you. That is one of my favorite quotes.

But the show does blend attitude with the japanese culture and i must say it blends perfectly. But thats my opinion anyway...

I'll have to say Samurai Deeper Kyo. Mainly because it's the only samurai anime I have. But I also really enjoyed the story. When you first meet Kyo after the battle of Sekigahara, he's pretty much a pervy geek...then he turns...bwahahaha. (sorry, couldn't resist) It has a lot of fighting in it, but it also dwells on the more human aspect of each character. And tries to get you to understand their motivation.
Whatever, I just liked the heck out of it.

U just can't help having one fav samurai in the show..and I'm in awe with Kyuzo! I heard a lot abt samurai champloo so i'm gonna check it out next. I hope it's worth the news

My favorite would have to be Samurai X: trust and betrayel. Before I had even heard of the series, I had watched most of the Kenshin episodes on cartoon network. Then I found Samurai X and loved it ever since. I had always wondered what had happened to Kenshin when he was a little boy (and he was so cute too!!!). But then after that, I really liked the story and most of the characters (especially Tomoe). But I thought that the whole show had a good plot and was able to keep the viewer's attention. Sometimes if there is to much battle of the same sort over and over again it can become boring to me, but this movie definately wasn't! (note: I haven't watched to many samurai movies so out of the couple I have this one would be my favorite but the second movie in this series I though was not that good, all they did was focus on the one move kenshin did and it lost my interest).

Mine has got to be Rurouni Kenshin/ Samurai X. Because of it's popularity, i think it's already considered an anime classic! I like it because the story is very interesting. So are the characters.

These topics are a bit touchy for most people because of the actual definition of "Samurai". I believe most "educated" people, not saying that people who don't are not, consider Kenshin as a "Swordsman", not a samurai... the TV adaptation's first American volume is called Legendary Swordsman, yet the movies were titled Samurai X.
So I take it that this topic is about probably any anime with a main character who carries a sword...
Samurai Champloo has got to be my favorite because of the Hip-Hop culture that was mixed in with the sword-fighting. [?] Schinichiro Watanabe [?] is one of the best story tellers, and due to his Cowboy Bebop ending, the ending to Champloo was unpredictable.
Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Samurai 7 and Ninja Scroll are all honorable mentions.

I can't think of a single period drama that used actual samurai, actually. Kenshin, Samurai Champloo, Samurai Deeper Kyo... Even the live action ones, like Yojimbo, Zatoichi, and Seven Samurai all used ronin instead.

Not necessarily, in Abarenbo Shogun and Mito Komon, the main characters were full fledged samurai.

I'll be dead honest. Fedual era/Samauri anime are not my favorite genres but I can't over look Samauri Champloo.
It's a riot. Mugen always makes me laugh.
I mean come on, when a samauri screams "I WANT MY NOOKIE!" and punches a guy 1,000 feet into the air, you know your in for a good time. I almost die laughing everytime at his antics.
And the battles, they are so fluid.

Ronin Warriors AKA "Yoroiden Samurai Troopers" was really good when I saw as a middle school kid back in the 90s.......Rurouni Kenshin is the best hands down......Samurai Champloo gets an honorable mention from me

I'm going to have to go with Samurai Champloo as well, love the attitude of the show and the reimagining for history to sort of liven things up a bit while still remaining generally true to the backdrop.

I recently bought Samurai X, but haven't seen it yet. Probably will tonight since it's competition with samurai champloo, which is one of my favorite anime shows. Samurai Champloo is just brilliance. End of story.

I would say Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal and Otogi Zoshi are my favorite though the second is techinically "proto Samurai".
My reasons are a matter of taste. I like the gritiness of these series as opposed to the joking manner of say, Samurai Champloo or the lightness of Kenshin.
All the Best,
Nani?
