I just wanted everyone to
Know that marioc is a very big
anime fan. And I would like
for the members of Anime News
Network to stop an honor
a very important man in
anime history.

Here's a good source:
www.awn.com/mag/issue1.5/articles/patten1.5.html

and also a little history on fred patten:

from:www.wittyworld.com/bios/biopatten.html

Frederick Patten was born in Los Angeles, California in 1940. He has been an enthusiast of comic books, animated cartoons, and science fiction all his life, and a reviewer of them for over forty years. He was a co-founder of the first American fan club for Japanese animation in 1977 and is still its Secretary. He has written articles on anime for comics and animation magazines for over two decades, currently including a monthly column in Animation World Magazine. He wrote the liner notes for Rhino Records' "The Best of Anime" music C.D., and entries for "The World Encyclopedia of Cartoons," edited by Maurice Horn. He was the editor of "The Complete Anime Guide" by Trish Ledoux & Doug Ranney, wrote a chapter on "Anime in the United States" for John A. Lent's book, "Animation in Asia and the Pacific," and was a research assistant on "The Anime Encyclopedia" by Jonathan Clements & Helen McCarthy. Patten writes a series, "Theriopangrams," for Radio Comix's monthly Furrlough comic book. He has also been active in science fiction and comic book conventions since the 1960s, as both a speaker and an organizer.

Fred Patten joined WittyWorld in 1987.

According do what you said about Fred Patten he doesn't seem to be that important in anime. It seems he's important in bringing anime to America but other than that he doesn't seem to play any important role at all in anime history. Seems to be a pretty minor role to me.

And why are you refering to yourself in third person?... What exactly do you want us to discuss on this topic anyway? For a "big anime fan" you sure seem to be pretty unimformed though.

animeforever'04 can't
understand good posts.
this is on topic and
informative.

I can understand if you call
yourself and anime fan
an your not.

Their's alot of that going around
but this is informative for people who don't
Know and I can see you didn't Know.

your post yell's that!

any person who calls themselves anime fans
can see the meaning behind this. Some people
are new to anime and this would be a good
way for them to find out new things about
the history of anime and the struggle
behind the art.

If this were ten years ago that article would have been good for new anime fans. That article is at least a decade old though. Although much of the information still holds true in it, it would probably be better to use a newer article for introducing new fans into anime. A lot has happened in anime in 10 years. Really, you need to get with the times.

I was speaking to everyone else not myself

I just wanted everyone to know
that I'm a fan. Their might be a few
who think otherwise.

The discussion is the history
commenting on the article he wrote.
you Know the link I posted.

And If he doesn't seem important
to your lost.It seems he's important in bringing anime to America . if thats not important then what is.

Do you Know what
uninformed means.

Definition Uniformed:Not informed; lacking in knowledge or information. I got this information from a dictionary called
wordsweb online. Since I'm not lacking in Knowledge of
what I posted or information your out of luck.

P.s
Using words wrong is common in
school dropouts. before you call me
uninformed, look it up first an spend
two hours thinking about

I'm really trying to be helpful to you here, marioc, since you really do seem to be living 10 years in the past. First, I never said Fred Patten wasn't important. He seems to be important in bringing anime to the US. For the anime industry though, which is stationed in Japan, he seems to play a very minimal role overall. He doesn't have any effect on anime itself. He was just helpful in bringing it to the US. I wouldn't consider that a huge role in anime history.

Next, do not warp the definition of "uninformed". You are lacking in knowledge. Knowledge of the present. It does not mean you are lacking in knowledge period.

Please read up on some of the current articles on ANN. It will help you to become informed of the current situations and news on anime. May I suggest reading the 2005 Year in Review which was written by various members of the ANN staff here. It's well written and will get you up to date.

Since This forum aint really going anywhere and has turned into a two on one between two bored ass people, I thought that I'd share with you all a video of Michael Jackson doing the moonwalk throughout his carrer.

Animeforever04 you really need to stop d*ck riding on Marioc.

Marioc however outdated and misinformed your info may be, I personally appreciate it because somethimes with all the crap that goes on anime fans forget the past and the trail blazers and the history and whatnot (I sure do). Despite what may have went on here, I'd rather see posts like these than 800 "Whats the most/best/worst _______ you've ever seen" Keep doin what your doin marioc and ignore the haters, or in this case the newbies and the small children.

I noticed you added a few more rude comments to your edit. Making the words plural I would assume you are refering to me in addition to animefoever'04. I don't know why you're insulting me. I never insulted you or marioc. If you read my posts you would have known that I was simply trying to help him get up with the times. I never once said I hated him nor do I hate him or you. And as for calling me a newbie, you really shouldn't be calling someone that who has over 600 posts more then you. Do not interpret what animeforever'04 says as to what I agree with, I don't agree with him at all.

It was plainly obvious that I was refering to animeforever'04 but yea I was refering to as a hater because of the constant attackin on marioc, I mean everyone is entitled to their opinion right? And thank god you don't agree with animeforever because that would have just been embarassing on your part or for anyone that could agree with what he/she(my vote goes here) is saying. And for the record I honestly don't care how many posts you or anyone else has over me. If it makes you feel good, keep on but I'm fine with having 10 posts, 100 posts, or a fafillion posts as long as my word gets across. And since its also plainly obvious that Animeforever simply is trying to get her own post count up, you may want to try by actually posting stuff with actual substence instead of bashing and dissing everyperson in sight. And callin someone a goomba? I'm assuming you must be about 6 maybe 7 with pointless comments like those.

And yes I am well aware of the fact that the information marioc's had provided was years old but thats better than him asking for downloads and subs and whatever else isn't allowed up here.

That's fine but don't make the words plural then. Making them plural does mean you are also refering to me.

That's irrelevant. You don't go around calling people "newbies" who have far more posts and experience on a website than you. If it doesn't matter to you then don't use the word "newbie".
