Being a Golgo 13 researcher and statistician, Kaburaya is no doubt fully aware of the merits of the claims that Golgo 13's failure rate is actually 0% rather than the 0.27% he puts forth for his book title. In fact, there's a chance he might have documented the pros and cons of this himself. It more or less stems from a single case in which our lead character is given a task under what are effectively false pretenses, and as such he kills his employers because that's against his hiring rules. While that scenario has played out many a time, in this instance he did fail to complete the job...for a little while. Thus, it can be argued by fans and Duke Togo alike that it doesn't actually count against his spotless record.
Of course, to sell a business advice book and tout 100% success would be setting oneself up for accusations of quackery. Better to say "if you can do all of this, it'll work almost all the time...and even if you can't do all of this, you'll have significantly improved from before!" Indeed, even Motorola was only able to fully realize Six-Sigma on one product, and they developed the method. For those interested beyond making the standard jokes, I believe you can actually read the story in question in English. I don't have the books in front of me right now, but it was either selected by "King of Editors" Carl Horn as part of the 13-volume Viz release of selected manga stories (Volume 8, I think...it's not in stock at Amazon but Right Stuf has it and the other volumes in stock for $7.50), or the supplemental materials in the back of one of the volumes goes into it in detail. |
