Besides Samurai Deeper Kyo what are some other good samurai anime or at least ones set in ancient Japan, I'm a sucker for that stuff.

Just so you know Rurouni Kenshin wasn't set in ancient Japan. It was the late 1800's.

By the way looking back on this post I sound kind of snobbish... I apologize...

Alchemist 449 it's okay dude. I actually realized my mistake about the Kenshin remark after you posted so don't worry about a thing I visited Jamacia last summer and if anything they taught me one thing a phrase you should remember: Irie this means everythings cool, so relax. I hope you get this post, so just remember, I am not hurt at all and apology accepted. I guess I let my hippie side out quite a bit in this post but oh well. Peace out Alchemist 449.

Your best bet is probably Amazon with 32% off the cover price and free shipping. You should definitely pick up the first 3 volume, because BoTM doesn't get really deep until volume 3. Only problem is that Volume 1 is completely slow old.

You will not find a manga better than Blade of the Immortal.

I mean, seriously, it's like a novel. A good novel.

A story that actually explores characters and setting and reasoning.

Check out Samurai Champloo. It's only two volumes long (I think the next one comes out in March), but it's a very enjoyable series. Maybe it's because of the humor and action, not sure. But the art is totally awesome. Anime smile

try Usagi Yojimbo by Stan Sakai

it's not manga, but it is a comic set in ancient japan about a ronin rabbit samurai and his adventures in an anthropomorphic feudal era. Personally, i like a heckuva lot better than some of the more contemporarily-styled samurai manga. It is a fairly long series (nineteen+ volumes and still going) and provides a great alternative for when you get tired of the whole besm thing. it had a tezuka-ish flavor to it but it stays more ninja-turtles in art style. Definitely worth your time.
