Just like a normal day, I went to my library to pick up some anime I requested for rental. I got Louie the Rune Soldier vol.1 and Rahxephon vol.1. As I was checking out, the lady said:
"You aren't into this anime nonsense, are you?"
I was so offended i could have smacked her. However, I'm not a violent person. I also picked up Kare Kano vol.1 (manga). I would've simply said she was rude and I could've stormed out, BUT renting from the library is free so I wasn't bothered with it.
What do you have to say about it? Has anything like this happened to you before?
By the way, this certainly WILL NOT stop me from getting more and more anime!

I think the librarian was just ignorant to what anime is, or they could be prejudice against any comic/graphic form of reading/viewing.
I haven't had a similar experience; most don't really say anything. That librarian is probably just a little more outspoken than most.

Yeah. She was probably one of those people who think all anime is pornography!

Ignore it. It's not like she's not entitled to talk every now and then. If she had said something more offensive, then maybe there'd be reason to react. Alas.
Don't mind it. Really.

I've rented anime from my library before and the most I ever got was a strange look or two. I think most of the people working there were actually happy I was even using the library. I agree what that lady said to you was uncalled for though. Given the situation I probably would have done the same thing as you.

Ummm...I'm not trying to whine, I'm simply trying to make some interesting conversation on things that happened to me today.

He wasn't making fun of or mocking you.
But yeah I agree that she probably thought your were renting porn.

I actually just got back from bestbuy like ten mins ago. I had one clerk who actaully scan my GITS:SAC 2nd gig vol 3 ask me if the tv series was like the original movie and also wanted to know what the different between the special edition (the version I got) to that of the normal one. We struck up a pretty cool conversion about how he might like the series, I said to check out the first season since he gets a discount. But the guy who bag my box gave me a dirty look during the entire transaction, and then as I grab my bag and walk passed him he said under his breath 'loser'. I looked back at him but he pretended to be helping the next customer who happened to be my brother, my brother also buying anime, Ninja Scrolls got the same comment too as he left.
I kinda wanted to see a Manager about the situation but I don't it would of help and last thing I need is this person waiting outside bestbuy and tailing me home.
How do I feel about it? I don't care, he can say what he wants in reality, I mean he probably likes rap which I could say is crap, but to each his own.
Till next time,
Delta Kiral

Something like this happened to me. But it was with music. It was after soccer practice and I was waiting for my ride. So I put on my head phones then one of my team mates mom came up and asked what I was listening to. I told her it was just some rock band. Then she says "I can't believe you listen to that crap" so I replied with "For your information, what I listen to is my business and my business only." Then I walked away. If it happens to you again tell the librarian that its none of their business or go to another librarian.

Yeah, I had a run in that type before and here's what I said.
"Woah, a real, live person is talking to me! I got to tell Mother! She'll be so happy." Of course I was in BDUs (Army uniform) at the time.

The librarion just seems kind of old/stupid. Ignorant is the best word here. It's utterly annoying, but what are you gonna do?
The bestbuy guy however, I'd want to beat the hell out of. Not like I really do that sort of thing often or something, but that's really freaking immature and stupid of him to say that. He's just some punk highschool-college guy that thinks he's cool. I'm not normally spoken out about things, but I would really think about talking to the manager or something after that. Screw him, we can see who the loser is after he gets fired for being an idiot.
Anyway, I had a bad day and I wish I could meet that kid to beat him up or something =P I don't really have any experiences first hand, I do a ton of online buying and I really don't see anyone except friends who would have an idea that I watch anime.

"No, I like to check out things from the library that I have absolutely no interest in."
...Seriously, though, I probably would have politely asked what she haid against anime out of curiosity. It's not really advice I'm giving you, I'm just saying what I probably would have done in the situation.
