Alright so Cartoon Network is on episode 42 of full metal alchemist and I just bought the last most recently released DVD and it is on episode 28.
So here is my question what the hell is wrong with square-enix? Why do they insist on taking so long to release the dvd's. Dont tell me its because of the manufacturing time because that is crap, all episodes are already completely dubbed and it does not take two months to make each DVD, they could make all the rest and release them within the next 4 months. So why do they insist on releasing each DVD every two months, when they could make it faster. |

FUNi is incharge of the distrbution of the DVDs. Ask them.

Maybe because they want the new episodes to premiere on Cartoon Network before they premiere on DVD so people WOULD ACTUALLY WATCH IT ON TV? You're so impatient. The Japanese had to go through the same thing, so you can, too. Just stop whining, watch the new episodes on Cartoon Network while you wait for the DVDs, and learn about the virtues of being patient. It'll help you a lot in life.

Companies don't want to flood the market by releasing too many volumes too quickly. There's already enough problems trying to get shelf space in stores. So they usually put out a single volume every eight weeks so stores and customers don't get overwhelmed.

well this makes sense but at the best buy I shop at they usually only get in about 6 volumes of FMA at a time. Thanks though I think this is probably right, it makes sense from a companies view point. |

It doesn't bother me at all. I, too, collect the Fullmetal Alchemist DVDs, and I know that Adult Swim is way ahead of what I've seen. FUNi, from some shows I've seen (definately not all, but the big ones, they seems to do this with) like to premiere some anime on a cable network... which almost always is Cartoon Network (though, there are the occasional 4kids releases.)
Also, think of it this way, Friends has been on for HOW long? (I'm referring to the show that aired on NBC), and I can tell you, it surely took them a lot longer to release the seasons on DVD here in America even though the show was going on. Heck, England had already been releasing the seasons on VHS before America joined the bandwagon and began selling sitcoms on DVD. This may be an overcomparison, but I'm just trying to prove a point. |

Also keep in the mind the production process. Sure Fumimation has a set amount of episode already dub, but even then they're working on other title as well as future episode of FMA at the same time. Releasing the DVD bi-monthly let companies pace themself and their work. |

Another option is to get a fansub version to compleat the series. The quality probably wont be as good as the DVD's so I would also keep getting them to.
BTW please don't bother telling me about the evils of fansubs  .

Alchemist debuted on Cartoon Network in November 2004. The first DVD volume was not released until January 2005. They release one new volume every 8 weeks. They've released 7 out of 13 DVD volumes as of now.
First of all mi laddo, Square Enix has nothing to do with the US distribution. Its Funimation who also handles the English translation/dubbing. Second, prove to me they could make them faster than they are already doing. Third, they don't want the DVD's to be at the same point as the TV series, that's just bad business and quite frankly stupid. Fourth, they just recently finished dubbing the series. Fifth, the initial DVD set was delayed due to manufacturing issues. Sixth, next time get your facts straight. Seventh, you don't know what you are talking about. Just because the dubbing is finished, they still actually have to produce the DVD's. That means creating the English menus, encoding all the subtitles, all sorts of production issues. Most anime series follow a DVD release schedule of every 8 weeks. So really, just knock if off. |

Yeah I know what you mean I hate it when they air it on TV and then you have to get it on DVD. To be honest most of the time I'll buy and watch the first volume and then not watch another episode until I get all the DVDs. I'll see when the last volume will be released and start watching the previous volumes like 1 or 2 weeks before so I can catch up. I'm very impatient and I hate waiting two months for the next 3 or 4 episodes. Thats why I love Samurai Champloo, just like Cowboy Bebop with many stand alone episodes, except the DVDs where the last episode was the 1st part of a 2 parter. Kino's Journey also had stand alone episodes which I loved.
Since I knew this was gonna be the case with FMA I've been watching on [as] and I'm just going to be patient and wait for a boxed set to be released sometime in the future since I'll have seen the series by the time the last DVD is released. The problem with my method is that I've ended up with series I ended up disliking cause it deviated from the plot established the first DVD, Gunparade March, but that doesn't happen to often. |

I prefer to wait for box sets, I have a sieve for a brain, if theres a break in a series or you watch a coninious story stretched over a long period of time, i forget about what happened, and you loose the emotional trail.. and some anime's play off the emotional trail, but watching it a 2nd or 3rd time if you need a recap doesnt have the same impact..
In UK, they released the TV Boxsets of Angel and Buffy tVS before or just as the series on tv started, i would always get these, though because of the series it was monster of the week, it didn't bother me as much on early season, but later onw hen they had 24episode story arcs, it did.. same with 24.. you get ya 24 fix per week, but to watch it in one go gives it a whole different level. UK releases of Red Dwarf have been every 6 months, and thats for only 6 episodes. ok i know this has deviated from anime, but tv shows anime or otherwise has its similarities. I have patience that if theres a series i want to watch, il ignore anything with it & put off buying it till its complete. |

Yeah, I'm sure fansub was meant to be an alternative to buying the series when they're available.  Kind of defeat the whole purpose of fansubbing.

Alright all-mighty one First, prove to me that they couldn't make them faster, why not? (and don't give me your BS opinion give me the facts, as you so stated, get your facts straight.)' Second, why would the dvd and the tv show be bad for business to be released at the same time or at a oneto two week delay, do you know anything about the business world, I highly doubt it. So why is it bad for business because people love what they see and they are going to go buy it, and maybe previous volumes. third, apparently you do not know what you are talking about, you make an argument about only coming up with the facts, when in yours you have absolutely no evidence to back yourself up. So maybe you should keep your dumbass OPINIONS to yourself. But thanks for the useless information, please prove anything above, with facts. Yeah I am with you Joel, I love this anime and I just wish it didn't take so long. The part that sucks for me is that I have only seen up to ep. 28 and since cartoon network is so far ahead I can't just start watching it, so now I have to wait for the dvd's or I will be missing out on about 14 episodes. |
