I've been wondering about something. You know those sites that host anime videos without permission? Like [redacted], [also redacted], etc. When you watch the show on the sites, you usually see commercials from some pretty big US companies.

I always forget there's even advertisements on the internet since adblock plus on firefox is so amazing. None-the-less, that was a very interesting question. Also it's good to see One Outs get some attention. That was by far my favorite "sports" anime.

RahXephon actually takes more from Raideen than Eva. Still, since it came after Eva, RahXephon has the luxery of being able to look at Eva's example and improve upon it, which helps make it the better show.

HorribleSubs don't have ads in their rips Laughing That's usually what gg does.

Oh, and I thought up a genre I don't get: NTR stories. Porn is supposed to make you feel good, but NTR just makes me feel horrible. So much so that there's no title I particularly like... There was one but apparently it doesn't actually count as NTR.

That's exactly what I was going to say.

Plus, Neon Genesis Evangelion retread key elements from Space Runaway Ideon, among other shows. It wasn't made in a vacuum. Therefore fans of NGE need to be wary about hypocritically accusing other shows of ripping off NGE.

That's not what Brian was saying. He was postulating that unscrupulous website owners make money off shows by putting ads in front of or alongside a HorribleSubs rip.

We all know that every show ever is just a rip off of Gurren-Lagann!

Oh, I thought he was talking about the video file itself. But if he meant on a video hosting site, then yeah...

And I, personally, can think of no other time in my life where I wasn't as lonely, in pain, felt sorrow, and wracked with guilt than when I was a 14-year old mopey teenager.

Need to work on this sentence.

That 'wasn't' should be a 'was'. Double negatives are tricky.

Even though TTGL was made a decade after NGE?

I guess Hiroyuki Imaishi can make the impossible possible and realise our dreams by smashing through the barriers of any rules that tie the hearts of humans down, all through believing in us who believes in him. Or something like that?

I believe you need a new one of these, since yours must be broken.

Hopefully this is common knowledge by this point, but nearly every ad that you see on your run of the mill website comes from AdSense or something similar.

Wait. There are ads on the internet?

I think clearly they were making a joke, unless my sarcasm meter is defective.

In other news, Ergo Proxy was rereleased?! ::rushes to amazon and orders a copy of the boxset::
Aww, everything is right with the world now Wink

I was playing along with the joke.

Guys, your sense of humour is currently AWOL; you might want to look into that.

If I were an anime studio I would be deftly afraid of releasing an original product. I would try to make sure the product is tied to something already established first (whether that be a light novel, game, manga, or toy-line). Some brand name companies might be able to risk it because their brand is the established product, but most studios will most likely be close to failure if an original product doesn't succeed.

On the subject of advertisements on fansub hosting sites: Those site are making money off of someone else's product. I think publishers will have a rightful claim about the situation, The problem is that one site goes down and two more pop up. It's a waste of resources to chase after them all.

I would rather see the companies focusing on providing quality content that fans can rely on. I've been using official streams for years now and I don't mind supporting them, even with advertising.

Also, everyone should know that kids and teenagers hold the power to save the world. Only that little kid can stop that grown evil man from destroying the world. The other adults can cheer from the sideline.

But what you wrote isn't a joke. That's what someone would say if they didn't understand the original joke. Now I'm lost.

"Anime has been adapted from manga and other source material from, quite literally, it's popularized inception. Astro Boy. Come on now."

Far earlier than that, since the 1920s at least with the many anime based on manga then.

the protagonist of any story - specifically, stories that are meant to target a specific demographic - needs to be a kind of entry point; a way for us, as the audience, to feel somewhat invested in the goings-on

Yeah the gender and age of the main character(s) will almost always tell you who the target demographic is.
