Thank god the renovations are finally done. It seemed like every year there's always some section of the complex off-limits due to construction, such as the nice sky-line attic where New York Anime Festival was last year. (Though they still really need to build an expansion across the street.) It's becoming like the San Diego Comic Con of the east, the hottest ticket in town.

The con was all sold out since last month, including the VIP gold packages that cost hundreds of dollars. Heck, the free Kids Day Sunday passes "sold" out too. It's even on TV that some passes were selling at thousands of dollars on eBay! Shocked

A friend had a couple of unused passes that somebody bought off him for twice he paid for each.................. Hmmmmmm........... we know what we're doing next year! Laughing

Personally i'm annoyed at the fact that anime guests and musical acts as well as the masquerade were in decline or canceled.

Its very apparent that nyaf is pretty much not even worth mentioning at nycc now.

Hopefully they'll bring those back when they get back the skyline attic floor next year.

Remember when ComicCon was actually about comics? It's funny there's more anime panels than comic panels at these conventions these days. >_>;

You've never attended this convention, have you?

Only the San Diego one. Is New York different?

The convention had 40,000 more gross square footage this year, despite ongoing construction in the Javits center.

[...]

This year was the first since New York Anime Fest officially merged with NYCC into one event.

So you hold one event rather than two at the same time & place, and ended up with more space to hold it in? Amazing. For their next trick, they should turn water into ice.

NYCC and NYAF have been the same event using the whole convention center since 2010 but had more or less their own dedicated spaces. This is the first year where all the spaces where shared officially. They simply had more space this year since ongoing renovations were finally dwindling down.
