It seems like in anime all the male characters act scared and shy around hot females, like they don't want to nothing to do with them, even of the females are jocking them...Ranma(when he's a guy), tenchi, Ataru from urusei yatsura( he could of easily had Lum), that's golden boy dude..and 1000 other anime male characters..is this a Japanese thing?

Japan puts a lot of value on humility. Having a guy going around, reveling in all the hot ladies he gets to score with is not a very admirable person. I'd even say he deserves to get stabbed repeatedly and then have his head cut off post-mordem.
Yes, the above allusion is the best cautionary tale there is for a male lead to not screw around. Other reasons: 1.) Some guys still link sex to love and thus want to make sure they only commit to the right girl. 2.) Guy doesn't want to hurt the other girls interested in him so he doesn't pick one. 3.) Guy likes a specific girl already but doesn't think she'd return his feelings so he doesn't make a move. Often he's so focused on the one girl that he doesn't see the feelings of others. 4.) He made a promise to some girl in the past and he wants to make absolutely certain he learns which of the current girls he knows is the right one. 5.) Guy just doesn't think any girls would like him since he's not special/handsome/worth loving/whatever. 6.) He has other responsibilites to deal with and doesn't have time to date. There are as many reasons as there are protagonists. These are just some of the few. |

Not quite. You're right if you mean "other guys" as in "other guys who aren't the audience surrogate main character." Otaku don't mind if the main character is the one who hooks up with the girl, but if any other guy lays a hand on (or is implied to have laid a hand on) her there'll be hell to pay and pictures of torn up manga volumes to be posted to the internet.
Well I am a man so I think I have a pretty good idea. Yeah, most teen boys think with the wrong head in real life, but we're talking about anime here. |

You do have a point; Sword Art Online had (offscreen) sex and Otaku didn't rage at that. |

Maybe the title of this thread was misleading. I meant to say how come male characters don't hook up with these girls that jock them. It doesn't have to be about sex. If I can remember, tenchi had every single girl except kiyone wanting to be with him..he even could of had Sammy..

The vast majority of the time the guy does end up picking one of the girls. It's just usually left until the climax of the show.

I think an interesting show which had something along these lines was Campione, one girl keeps hitting on him and he just keeps brushing off, and upset at her very "we are lovers: attitude. Although his reasons happen to be that she is teasing him, or does not really care for him, you should see how he acts in the end with her.
You might even have the friendship minded harem leads, the guys who don't want to ruin friendships by acting on their penis. Some also have fear of being outed as a pervert, you know be called hentai, baka and such. |

Like I said. I don't care if there is this male character that's down for the pound. I'm just saying that a lot of the animes I watch or used to watch that are filled with suckas.,as soon as the girl starts kissing on them their cheeks turn red and they throw them off and run away screaming. At least they could play it cool and non chalant like, "bitch get off me, I'm trying to practice this Kung fu"...that would seem more realistic.
