Hey guys. I'm looking around and I can't seem to find a site that has the fans pick their top anime show/move/whatever else.
Was kind of wanting to start a bit of a topic on what you guys think are the top animes. I'll add them up and everything just put down your favorits under the topic. |

I don't believe in comparing series with stand-alone movies...too many thematic differences. It's like trying to say which is better, Pinocchio or The Simpsons. But anyway, here's my current top-ten anime series favs.
1) Evangelion 2) Cowboy Bebop 3) Rurouni Kenshin 4) Hellsing 5) Irresponsible Captain Tylor 6) Tenchi Muyo (OVA) 7) Record of Lodoss War (OVA) 8 ) Lupin III 9) Outlaw Star 10) Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 Further complicating things is the fact that my "top 10 fav" list would not match my "top 10 best" list....though I enjoy Evangelion more, for all-around quality I'd place Cowboy Bebop and Tenchi Muyo higher....and though they're personal favorites I don't consider Hellsing, Tylor, or Outlaw Star to be "the best". And for the record.... fav anime movie, Perfect Blue best anime movie, Princess Mononoke |

Ok, I see what you mean there. I guess I just wanted them all done at once. We could make two different threads, one for series and one for moves. Would that make things easier?
I'll count em up at the end of every week and post the results. Make sence? If you guys have better Ideas then say so and I'll try to comply. |

Yeah...my "fave" list isn't really my "best" list either...but here's my faves:
1. Sailor Moon 2. Gunsmith Cats 3. Ranma 1/2 4. Evangelion 5. Crying Freeman 6. Battle Angel 7. Ghost In The Shell 8. Armitage III 9. Trigun 10. Bubblegum Crisis (Of course, following quickly behind are: Vampire Hunter D, Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust, Oh! My Goddess, Lupin III, Card Captor Sakura, Sorcerer Hunters, Dominion Tank Police, Kare Kano....oh the list goes on...how could there only be 10???) |

There are only ten because I'm going to use the list of ten and every one on there will get a place depending on the votes they get.

This first list is the one you should use for your site, sonic, it isn't totally dominated by Ghibli, nor by movies nor by tv shows but I sampling of what I think the 10 top anime (not nesessarly my fav particularly #1) are.
1) Grave of the Fireflies 2) Princess Mononoke 3) Only Yesterday (Omohide Poro Poro) 4) Serial Experiments Lain 5) Katsuhiro Otomo's Memories 6) Cowboy Bebop 7) Jin-Roh 8) Perfect Blue 9) Wings of Honneamise 10) Angels Egg :D (you'll notice most are movies) These Next lists are just what I really think are the best, I wanted a good sampling of what my favorites were for your site. Since IMO just about all of Ghibli's work deserves the #1 spot (with the exception of Pom Poko) (and I haven't seen Spirited Away nor My Neighbors the Yamadas, yet) here is the Ghibli list. 1) Grave of the Fireflies 2) Princess Mononoke 3) Only Yesterday 4) My Neighbor Totoro 5) Laputa the Castle in the Sky 6) Porco Rosso 7) Kiki's Delivery Service 8) Whisper of the Heart 9) Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind (the manga was a lot better) 10) Ocean Waves This is the list minus Ghibli. 1) Serial Experiments Lain 2) Katsuhiro Otomo's Memories 3) Jin Roh 4) Cowboy Bebop 5) Perfect Blue 6) Wings of Honneamise 7) Angels Egg 8) Boogiepop Phantom 9) Patlabor 2 10) Lupin III (particularly the 1st TV and the two 2nd TV eps by Miyazaki, and the Castle of Cagliostro) I just wanted people who haven't checked many of these out to please do so (if they can, many aren't released over here officially yet). They are all great anime if your into the more arty side of anime (Lupin being the exception, but it is a really fun series). |

This is all fine and good, but like someone mentioned earlier, Anime Movies and Series are not to be mixed and matched on a list like this. Issues like movies getting higher budgets, TV shows getting more time to develope a plotline, and countless other topics are bound to interfere with rational comparison. I'm not quite sure I understand the "best" and "favorite" dilema. To me, if I find something to be the best, it is also my favorite, but I guess I've always marched to the beat of a different drum, anyway. Speaking of which, I like top five lists more than top ten, since I it's worth: 10) Fushigi Yuigi 9) Gasaraki 8) Outlaw Star 7) Rurouni Kenshin 6) Serial Experiments Lain 5) Irresponsible Captain Tylor 4) Trigun 3) Vision of Escaflowne 2) Neon Genesis Evangelion 1) Cowboy Bebop |

ok, well alot of anime i like other people, dont.
10. Yu Yu Hakusho. barely making it in on my list, this series promises something. 9.Jin Roh: Wolf Brigade. ok, this is a good anime, only problem i had with it is that it kinda moved slow. 8.Tenchi Muyo. who doesnt love tenchi? 7.Robotech. i think one of the best robot battle shows I've seen. very good plot. 6.Escaflowne. ok, i watched this anime from beginning to end. It is still good. 5.Macross (sp?). ok, I've always heard robotech and this clashing, i think macross takes the cake. 4.Vandread. oh cmon, i fell in love with this one at first sight at the anime expo at long beach,CA. (cant wait for this years) 3. Cowboy Bebop. one of the best things to come out of Japan recently. 2.Mononoke Hime. Myaizaki's(sp?) latest and possibly last film. ask yourself, can it get any better than this? 1. undecided. |

2 is "One Piece", about Ruffie the Pirate King and his .. uhm.. adventures.. Anyways... how did my favorites list go? Something like this: 10. Cowboy Bebop <-- After much hemming and hawing, I've decided that CB is better than Pokemon, so Pokemon falls to #11 on my list of faves. 9. .hack//sign <-- It's the "Noir" syndrome, I suppose, but this show's been growing on me... Digisubbers should stop subbing it, though, 'cause it's licensed. And I still think watching this show with subs should be considered 'cheating' :) (C'mon, no one laughed at my joke! v_v).. first DVD shows up during Otakon, so I doubt I'll get that until sometime after. :/ 8. Digimon <-- but i still like digimon more. :p 7. Azumanga Daioh <-- Curses! The first DVD comes out in September. :~( But I want it now... 6. Tokyo Mew Mew 5. Magical Nyan Nyan Taruto 4. Super GALS Kotobuki Ran <-- I hear both the anime and manga ended this spring, and both left something to be desired in terms of finality. I hope 27-52 come out on DVD.. :P~~ 3. Record of Lodoss War OVA 2. Grave of the Fireflies 1. Card Captor Sakura Or something loosely resembling that. |

...but I put Rurouni Kenshin at #3! The two Vampire Hunter D films are, IMO, just that:films, and therefore as I explained I refuse to compare them with series. But for the record, I hate the original VHD, but I love Bloodlust, and it is one of my all-time favorite anime movies. |
