Makes sense. It simplifies distribution and eases up on associated costs.

I hope Anncast talks about this this week, Justin probably will know what the cause for and the effect of this change will have.

Stupid way to do what? Shoot a movie? It's cheaper, involves smaller equipment and has at least as good quality. It wouldn't be becoming more common if it didn't have advantages.

If this is the case of getting rid of the traditional 35mm film in favor of using digital technology, I wonder if Hollywood would soon embrace this new style or try fighting against it? If all Hollywood studios were to someday want to get rid of 35 mm film, how would directors handle it? It would be mixed to say the least.

Imagica garage sale incoming!
I always wanted my own 35mm laser-printing subtitling rig! Then I could go back and fansub anime the way it was meant to be fansubbed: On FILM. |

No one has love for 35mm.
Yep! At least give some filmmakers something to do on their own they can be proud of (being a traditionalist perhaps).
I think more hardcore would be if the subtitles were written on black cardstock in white text and superimposed over the screen using a camera and necessary effects unit. In those pre-chyron days, that was how you would had to have done it. |
