Aw, geez...it's looking less likely that the manga will end before "Rebuild" finishes. Oh well, one can hope.

Well, to be fair, Sadamoto has been really busy with Summer Wars.
Oh wait. That was three years ago.

Only 6 months? That's nothing. The manga was already on Vol5 in 1998. At which point he took something like a 1.5-2 year break. I still have all my old Viz "comic book style" releases from back then. "Special Edition" of course -- aka Japanese style, unflipped.

Lets say I only want to buy the volumes that deviate away from the original series, which volumes would you recommend?
I know there has been minor differences since the start, but I hear things have really changed recently which has now got me interested.

this is awesome news! 13's coming out just before 3.0 so i'd guess at a similar scenario for 14 and 4.0, but i guess time will tell!

Apparantly, ViZ is bringing out the original NGE in Omnibus form (3-in-1), with the first arriving on Dec 6th 2012.
I might pick it up, as I've been meaning to read some Evangelion : )

And then Evangelion will be done for good.

Do you know if they will release it under Vizbig? Or will they do thinner, lower quality editions like the ones they did with Naruto, Bleach and Fullmetal Alchemist some months ago?

Vol. 1-4 have minor changes or omissions (Asuka's first fight was a solo event, couple slight personality tweaks). Vol. 5-7 have new scenes and alter the outcome of a fight. At 8 the differences are very noticeable, and vol. 9 they're unavoidable. Its the same basic story, but slightly changed and with space for more character.

It's listed/leaked on Amazon.uk. As far as I know, no other sites have shown it and Viz has never really made a normal announcement on it either.

I found the wording of the article unclear...
how can he "resume" vol 13 in october if its set to be published in book form in november? everything in 13 was done before the hiatus no? so that seems to confirm that 13 is NOT the last volume... right? The article made it sound like it could go either way.
I'm confused.

As I have said repeatedly before (though a few others have as well) , the way Volume 13 ends, it couldn't possibly be the final Volume.
At the same time, no, it isn't dragging on forever; Volume 13 ends just as the Third Impact scene from End of Evangelion begins, which was the last sequence of the movie.

well that *is* good news; do you have a primary source for this? (press release or something)
