J-pop outside of anime would be ughh forgot its name but it was done by BoA. After I heard the song she did for InuYasha (Every Heart 4th ending song) I decided to search for some of her other songs and found them just as enjoying.
The first J-rock song I heard would have to be Haruka Kanata by Asian Kung-Fu Generation. I heard it on my friends mp3 player before I actually started watching the series. Now my first J-rock song out of an anime would be either Locolotion by Orange Range or Sunny Day by Asian Kung-Fu Generation. I liked those bands from the opening songs they did for Naruto and Bleach so I decided to look for some of their other songs.

It's "Sandy"; not "Sunny Day". See their English site.

same here, i got into l'arc from fullmetal alchemist ...i bought the fullmetal alchemst complete best collection and i got addicted to Asian Kung-fu Generation through Rewrite
and my friend had l'arc's smile album. Then i went to Indonesia and they had their awake album, then i got around to purchasing their compliation CD's (Best of L'arc~en~ciel....)
I also had the Inuyasha Best Collection and i got into BoA and Do As Inifinity.
And in Indonesia i also got Gates of HEaven by DAI, Best of Soul (BoA) and Every little thing, Every best single +3, etc.
it follows that pattern

Oh, this takes me back...LOL
The first anime music in japanese i ever heard was Zankoku na Tenshi no Teze/Cruel Angel Thesis, and the first jpop was "First Love" by Hikaru Utada. They're still two of my favourite anime/jpop songs.

Ah, my first JPOP. I would have to say "My Will" By dream. For anime songs, it dates all the way back to the late 70s early 80s.

I think the first jpop/jrock song that I heard is 'Just Communications' by Two-Mix for Gundam Wing. Somehow that led to a craze with Ayumi Hamasaki's, BoA and Utada Hikaru songs and when Inu Yasha (tv series) came out I dived right into even more jpop/jrock musics. Now I have way too much j music on hand with some korean musics too.

The first one I ever heard was Megumi Hayashibara's "Infinity" which was on an anime music video I downloaded in the mid 90's put to clips from Dragonball Z. The vid was crap quality-wise but the song was awesome. I tracked it down to the Best of Lost Universe soundtrack and bought it earlier this year.

The first J-rock song I heard was "Understar" by Shocking Lemons for the Hajime no Ippo anime, which remains to be one of my favourite songs of all time, along with "Inner Light" by the same band. I think the first J-pop song I heard was "Sakura Saku" by Megumi Hayashibara, for the Love Hina anime of course, and is one of the craziest, catchiest tunes I've heard in ages!

The earliest one I can remember (way before I knew what anime was) was Globe - Departures. Then came a bunch of Utada Hikaru songs. Then came anime and a bunch of idol songs that I didn't particularly care for.

The first J-rock song I heard must've been Beast of blood with Malice Mizer. But oh, Malice Mizer maybe doesn't count as Jrock? No, I guess it's visual kei... Well the first Jrock then must've been... either Orgasm with X-Japan or Obscure with Dir en Grey. First Jpop was Ne-e with Aya Matsuura I think.. something with Aya Matsuura anyway.
I'm mostly in to visual kei, but I like Jrock and Jpop too

i feel like such a n00b for saying this...'Teen Titans Theme' by Puffy AmiYumi. I liked the song so much, I downloaded it, along with their song 'Green Apple' from the Spike CD, which I liked even better, and it's currently one of my fave Puffy songs. I now own all of their domestic discs, and hope to get the Jet CD this Hanukah. I also own 2 Hikaru Utada CDs (Exodus and her Singles collection), and hope to get some Ayumi Hamasaki, L'Arc, AKFG, TM Revolution, and FLCL OST3 also. I also listen to Koda Kumi, Tommy February6, Brilliant Green, Maaya Sakamoto, Gackt, and Malice Mize, among others. I also like the Anime and Jpop stations on AOL Radio!

The first J-pop/J-Rock I heard must have been the opening theme to Gokudo, because that was the first thing on the programme the first time I went to our local anime club . The first one that sticks in my memory is Fukai Mori by Do As Infinity (because the second thing on was Inuyasha ). First non-anime-related was watching that rather infamous performance of Vanilla by Gackt .
