It's that time of the year again. So what manga/comic do you planon getting yourself (or someone else getting for you) this Christmas? Also put some reason and do not just list items.
Manga: -Monkey King - still haven't pick this up yet, might wait for to see when volume 2 will be release. -Genshiken Vol. 3 - More otaku mayhem. -BECK vol. 2 - It's one of the best series of the year, except without all the rock music that made it addicting in the anime. ![]() Artbook: -Justice N Mercy - Always been a big fan of Priest, so this is a must for me. -GUILY GEAR X 2000-2004 - One of my favorite 2D games, the character are amazing. It's pretty expensive though. ![]() Comic: -Kabuki: Circle of Blood - always wanted to check this out, this holiday seem like a good time. -Daredevil HC 2 - I heard Brian Bendis' run in the DD is amazing. ![]() |

PARADISE KISS
I love this manga! I am hinting to everyone I know to get me some of the jewellery from the online shop! I also have some arty friends so there is a chance of customised stuff. DOUJINSHI I just got into this (the non-porno kind). I am really wanting some Final Fantasy doujinshi espically. MOOGLE PLUSH Every time I see these on ebay they are REALLY expensive, well, to expensive for me to get myself without a reason, so christmas is a good excuse. MIDNIGHT OPERA This manga caught my eye the other day and I like the look of the art, but I probebly end up buying it for myself in the new year. HONEY & CLOVER I really adore the art in this and want any merch. available. HOW TO DRAW...BOOKS I only have one of these but would like to get some more, or other manga art books. |

Probably just the ones I've been collecting that I've been too poor to keep up i.e. Bleach, Kenshin. Nothing new has really caught my eye.

I don't really ask for manga for gifts, I just tell them to give me the cash so then I can go get it. :D It's hard for other people to know how to find the right titles.
Anywho, I want to pick up some shoujo manwha after Christmas. |

For me, the only specific one I want is the first volume of Urusei Yatsura, which had gotten very difficult to find. Otherwise, I'm just asking for a giftcard to the local Borders.

I'd have to say the Blade of the Immortal volumes that I do not own. This is because the story line is very provocative and well thought out. The characters are extremely complex and the bad guy is given actual depth to him, not all that crazy, sinister, addicted to the sight of blood stuff that most villians are prone to. Instead he is given feelings and thoughts and his character is explored.
I also would like Ghost in the Shell: Man Machine Interface. It is the latest work to be seen by Masamune Shirow in, as far as I know, ten years. It also looks look very interesting as it combines phychics with science/technology. |

The only series with volumes out that I don't already have and that I want to finish for now are the last three Planetes volumes. If I get some cash for Christmas, I'll use it to pick them up.

For me there are only two series:
All available Chrono Crusade volumes: I heard good things about it, and have been reading, not buying it, at borders, so I wolud like to finally own it. Also because it's very much my style: action, comedy, with a hint of depth/mystery to the characters, which is how I prefer my manga. Azumanga Daioh: Same reasons as above. Besides, who doesn't enjoy a good laugh every now and then? Am I rigth? |

The manga at the top of my wish list is Aria. I think it looks like a really good series with beautiful art. The story has the sort of fantasy thing I'm going for, and it's a short series (three volumes).
Bleach is on there because I really need to catch up with the manga. I only have two volumes; Vol. 10 is coming out this month. Two other series I need to catch up with are Saiyuki (I have Vol. 1-3) and Love Hina (Vol. 1 & 2). Speaking of Love Hina, volume 8 of Negima! is coming out this month. I have a few art books and novels on my wish list, too. I'm looking forward to buying Robot (color manga), which I can't seem to find in stores. Would Borders/Waldenbooks have it? |

Excellent choice, but unless you've already heard, Aria doesn't end at 3 volumes. ADV put it on hiatus a while ago: the series is up to 7 in Japan, and ongoing. |

Like a lot of DMP books, they're hard to find in store. Your best bet is to get it at amazon with a nice discount and free shipping over 25. Oh yeah, Robot is a color anthology but really is an artbook too. |

I've read this manga and while I like it, I'm more a fan of Katsuya Terada's illustrations. I've had Paintabon for a long time and picked up Rakuga King when I visited LA a few weeks ago. (Absolutely phenomenal, by the way.) While Monkey King is worth the purchase for its stunning artwork, I personally found the storytelling to be very convoluted. Even my fiance, born in China and raised on the Monkey King legends, had trouble understanding what was going on. Like I said, the art is amazing, but you can purchase any number of Terada's art books and get the same quality of work. The only problem is they're pricey (Rakuga King was $50.) Heh, I kind of spoiled myself a little early this year, so I don't really have anything left that I want on my manga/art book wish list. The only thing I REALLY wanted this year was this and I picked it up in LA. So I'm content. |

Wow, is it that bad? I'm really picking up the book mainly for Katsuya Terada's dark-overtone artwork and I'm pretty familar with the monkey story while watching it as a kid. I believe Dark Horse is releasing a Terad artbook around spring of 2006 with original commentary, which I'm definitely going to pick up. |

Not so much bad as convoluted, as Cloe mentioned. It's an enjoyable read for the violence and amusing situations and over-the-top quirks (crazy version of Goku, Sanzo as a female bondage slave), but because most chapters are limited to around ten pages, Terada really has to sacrifice story which makes the overall plot very confusing. I've read all of Journey to the West (including the "filler" chapters that were left out of the original English edition) and I still found it hard to follow. Still recommended for the fights and stunning artwork. I've also heard that Darkhorse will be releasing one of Terada's artbooks in 2006, which should be something to look forward to. As for my list, I really don't have any manga. I recommended a friend get me The Complete Soulwind graphic novel, something I've been long overdue to read. I'm thinking about picking some stuff for friends such as Short Program and the criminally underappreciated Love Roma. |

Well, that's no good. Hopefully ADV will have the rest of it out sometime, if that's even possible. I would really like to see the anime, too.
Thanks. It would be nice if stores actually stocked up on books like Robot. Oh, and I really wasn't sure what to call it--I had just heard it called "color manga." |
