I'm sorry, but why? The new boxset seems like it was just released. Why is there a need for an even newer boxset (especially since the actual anime itself isn't that great). This is just my opinion, but the new price tag isn't really that much cheaper since you can already purchase the previous boxset for even cheaper than the new set's price tag. I'm sorry, but this time, the boxsetting has gone too far.

It's interesting to note that Bandai seems to think that the recently-released tin version may actually be sold out at some point in the near future, thus helping justify the existence of the upcoming Anime Legends version. Now, I don't like to rag on this show as much as others do, though I'll readily admit it's not that great, but unless the print run for the tin version was quite limited I don't see them being hard to find any time soon. I can understand why they wouldn't want to keep producing the tin versions (i.e., cost), but I can't figure out why they felt that creating a non-tin version so soon after the tin release would be a beneficial thing to do.

Two things about the item on the news page:

1) $34.98 is the same MSRP as the tin version, not lower.

2) It's Avenger, not Avengers.

I don't think I would buy this one even if it has GOLDEN version of it. Neither does it deserve to be titled a legend. IMHO the series was a complete waste of my time.
I think it's wiser if they asked the fans (via polls on ANN for example) which series should get a special-collector's-limited-edition-tin-treatment like this. 'Cause I don't think this has a huge fanbase at all.
I also think it's a little too early to throw a new boxset on the market a few months after its first release.

What is the purpose of the Anime Legends line anyway? Is it a marketing gimmick to get people to buy a certain title or is there a deeper meaning to the line?

Witch Hunter Robin, .Hack, and Wolf's Rain are not a part of this line and Avenger is.

Just wondering.....

There is no deeper meaning. Despite the name, it's nothing more then a discount line to add some life to older series that can't move many full-priced units, and move more of what doesn't sell. It's the same as ADV's "Anime Essentials" or Geneon's "Signature Series." Avenger is a series that would have been better getting confiscated at customs on its way into the country, but they have it, so they need to make whatever money they can on it.

Actually 'Sakura Shinguji' you make a good point. I didn't think about that. Yes, since the collectors tin is a "limited ed". Chances are it's going to go out of production quickly. Bandai is famous for doing that. We all know what happened to the 'Gundam' series boxes.
