@hamster Hehehehehe. My parents were living in Japan until a few years ago. My mom is trying to get her comics via my cousin's wife. It sorta works unless my cousin's wife forgets. I was telling my mom which volumes in her collection were recently released or are about to be released which she then calls my cousin's wife in Japan to get her order them. lol
I also burn through a stack of manga in 2-3 days maybe a little longer if I'm lucky. So its easier for me to order my own manga on-line. I've now added Kikugawa Chiako to my list of writers for collecting after talking to my brother about a horror manga from the late 1970s/early 1980s we read. It also got me thinking about another series by Hitaka Ryou. Since my cousin's wife isn't a big manga fan and a kyouiku mama (a mom that values academic pursuits), I can't impose on her. My mom is another story. ^^ Besides, I need a reason for why I would ever go to San Francisco. Manga shopping is a nice compliment to eating ramen (Saporro-ya for the win) and shu-cream (Bearded Papa for chocolate shu-cream...drools). Now I'm hungry. |

I have been collecting manga for the past four years now, and by reviving this thread I'd like to share it with you and find out other seinen fans here at ANN. As you can see my collection consists mostly of seinen, although I also have a good number of shonens (I mean, just one shonen jump series like Naruto is more than 50 volumes long and is still ongoing; shonen volumes are also much cheaper than seinen). I'm pretty happy with what I've got now, but unfornately seinen is not that popular in the states and the manga industry is not in the best shape currently, so there are still some series I'd love to see licensed in english and other series that I've only just begun collecting - I'll probably try to collect the rest of Nausicaa and Claymore next. I'd like to see more of your collections too, so keep them coming!

What do you wrap your mangas in? Is it a re-sealable bag? Where do you get it? |

If you're interested in Nausicaä then you might want to wait for the box set that's coming out this November, since it looks like you only have volume 1 so far. I would post more pictures, but my last post was just a page ago, so... |

Didn't know that, thanks for the info! In that case I'll wait for the box set and probably start with either Claymore or Real. I've also just received Water today, one of Takehiko Inoue's artbooks dedicated to Vagabond (the other is Sumi, which Viz has also published). |

I only get 2 bookcases in which to fit all my collection, so I have to get a little creative with the arrangements sometimes ^^;;
I used to own a lot more, but I've sold off a lot of the series I'm no longer interested in over the years. Most of what I read as a teenager I've scrapped. I generally tend to keep what I want to re-read. Shelf #1 is half DVDs and half manga: Specific titles, top to bottom left to right: Oh, My Goddess, Jadou, Nighthead Genesis, Ouran Host Club, Red River, Pet Shop of Horrors, Hetalia, Azumanga Daioh, Sorcerer Hunters, Please Save My Earth, Legal Drug, Tsubasa, Here is Greenwood, Death Note Shelf #2 is mosly BL/yaoi: A selection of significant series, top to bottom left to right: Black Knight, Tea for Two, NG Life, The Betrayal Know My Name, Gundam Wing, Seven Days, Rabbit Man Tiger Man, Right Here Right Now, Black Sun, Let Dai, Takumi-kun, After School Nightmare, Earthian, Silver Diamond, Gorgeous Carat, Menkui!, Private Teacher, Only Serious About You, Finder, Ichigenme, Gerard and Jacques, Kyo Kara Maoh, Eerie Queerie, Junjou Romantica, Crimson Spell, I Can't Stop Loving You, Boy Princess, Totally Captivated, Little Butterfly, Challengers, The Tyrant Falls in Love, Vanilla, Il Gato Sul G, Maiden Rose, Jazz, Ludwig II, I Shall Never Return, Banana Fish, Zetsuai, Houkago no Shokuinshitsu, Katakoi Paradise Note that I didn't list all my one-shot/anthologies ^^;; as that would be a bit tedious, but, there you have it. |

Nice to see a new face around here! And sweet collection! You poor shelves appear to be crying with that much manga on them (I remember when I used to have cheap-o shelves from Target that crashed and burned and ruined the spine on my JTHM comic, yet somehow the shelving unit where I forcibly installed an extra shelf using screws holds up perfectly well to this day). I also see some Fumi Yoshinaga, that always makes me happy! I read in another thread that you've got some good book connections, try and get all of Flower of Life asap if you can (it's mostly vol 4 that's the problem, and if you can get 2 copies of vol 4, please pm me! I really need one for a friend!) Like you, I think I've gotten rid of a lot of what I had when I first started out (I'm usually just glad my teenage self bought Maison Ikkoku, which of course I've kept and still has a place of pride on my shelves to this day), and mostly try to keep what's worth re-reading (some forever, some for maybe a year as one re-read will be enough). I've actually started getting short boxes at the comic book store to hold more manga. They can hold about 40 volumes each and stack quite nicely, if you're ever strapped for room (which you obviously are), consider maybe getting a few. But they only hold the standard sized manga. Trading stuff on mangatude also helps me get rid of stuff and get new stuff in too! |

@classicalzawa
Hi! Thank you! They do sag a bit in the middle, don't they? Those shelves were actually custom-built for me by my father when I was in high school -- I'd asked for bookshelves for Christmas, and gave him the measurements of my manga specifically for the sizing. On Christmas morning they'd put the shelves out on the front porch with a big bow, like a kid getting a new car or something ^^;; So, despite appearances, they're actually very sturdy and not in much fear of crashing... Although I do get a little anxious every time I have to flip a new stack vertical! I am only limited to what I can fit on those two shelves, however, because my husband is not so found of my collection. My history and fantasy books take up entire other shelves throughout my house as well... I live surrounded by books. Ahh! So "deep storage" wouldn't quite be an option at this point as it's Yes, I love Fumi Yoshinaga! I just discovered her recently. I read Gerard & Jacques and loved it, so began acquiring some of her others. I actually have Truly Kindly on its way at the moment. I do see that volume 4 of Flower of Life is out of print, but I want to say I had access to it recently... because I thought about getting the whole series. Hm. I'll have to make some phonecalls and see what I can turn up. mangatude? I've never heard of that. I actually just culled a massive amount of manga off my shelves, including the entirety of X, so I'll have to check it out! Thanks for the heads up. Edit to Add: Mission Accomplished ^^ I have Flower of Life 4. Now I just need to order 1-3 when I get to work tomorrow, so I can read it! |

My collection consists of mostly english editions but I also have a considerable amount of manga in spanish and currently I'm collectiong one series in Italian. I'll list the names of the volumes which names aren't quite clear and translate the spanish titles.

Bellow there is between Hell Baby and Dorohedoro Domu - a CHild's Dream and Me and the Devil Blues. Behind the shelf From right to left from the bottom shelf: next to GoGo Monster is La tragedia de P = P no Higeki, Town of Evening CAlm, Country of Cherry Blossoms and next to The Book of Human Insects is Monokuro Kinderbook. and La Montaña Mágica = Mahō no Yama. @ Lokarunith:
Is that the entire series of Spirit of Wonder? How many chapters is it? I was just wondering because I have one English volume, and I thought for years that was all there was. |

Yes, it is. I posted all the information relative to the chapters here animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=4216&page=34. Spirit of Wonder is a collection of short stories, the spanish edition contains all of them but I believe that Dark Horse has only printed the last one which is about miss China (chapter 10-12). |
