I'm not completely surprised. I feel bad for him, but it is amazing he's still willing to continue the manga, especially in his condition.

I feel bad for the mangaka as well. People have been saying his drawings have been getting sketchier and sketchier, maybe that has something to do with him going on hiatus.

This reminds me of the tales I've heard of mangaka who refuse to keep drawing in spite of illness or injury, even taping the pen to their hand if necessary... I wonder how much truth there is to that...

Which mangaka? Thought I wouldn't be surprised, seeing as they work such long hours under such stress and usually for dirt pay...
Anyone know what Togashi's got, or how serious it is? (m'wondering if Takeuchi Naoko's got a project currently; i've a mental image of her housewife-nursing him....)

I'd believe Tezuka, Nagai and Miura, were I able to guess three...

Judging by how bored I am after reading the first 5 books, I'm not missing much.

Hi, I translated this particular news item (among others) on manganews.net
Although I did not mention it on that site, when Shueisha announces that Togashi is "ill" it can mean anything from "he is actually, physically ill" to "he is too tired from a marathon session of the latest Dragon Quest game" to "we knew beforehand that he was going to miss his deadline (again) and probably next week's deadline as well, so we'll say he's sick and give him time to catch up a little."

Judging from past reports, he seems to be ill from some disease. I can't rememebr the specifics.

Mangaka usually have assistants that help with the various grunt work, but... I suppose it comes down to the personal preference and attitude.
