My twitter feed exploded with happiness at this news so I'll have to check it out. I just reserved Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths at the library, so I can finally see what the raves are about.

Been wanting to read this since I first got into anime and manga. Can't wait! Let's see if Tezuka's drunken lambasting of Mizuki over this manga was justified ;P

Is it gonna be all in one book, or a selection of stories?

great - will it be a reprint of the kodassha's dual language manga
release [ which went the "Oishimbo" route of justshowing the best chapters of the series], or will be seeing all of the series [ quite a monumental task in itself]?

Is it really that big? Both wikipedia and the ann encylopedia says it's just 9 books

Sweetness! A manga I thought would never make it over here! I'm waiting for the library to get NonNonBa in first (or if I see it for a good price at Otakon, maybe I'll just snap it up), since it seems like it'd be more similar to Kitaro than Onward Toward Our Noble Deaths is.

Looks like the Amazon listing is for 430ish pages, so hopefully it'll be like several omnibuses then?

There are way more than 9 volumes. The Japanese wiki has around 18. That doesn't include the Hakaba Kitaro arc or the other rental comics which are Mentioned on the Japanese wiki but are not cataloged as they are long OOP. Nor does it include the sealed books - ie Kitaro in Vietnam.

Hi, big Shigeru Mizuki fan here, and I can say, yes, it really IS that big.

Imagine my surprise a couple of years ago when I ordered "The Complete Kitaro" off of yahoo japan auctions...

and the seven huge volumes arrived, about 240 pages each...

and I realized that this WASN'T the complete Kitaro...

just the first seven volumes...

out of twenty-five.

And then imagine my surprise when I realized the complete twenty-five volume set doesn't contain more recent works, or original versions of work that was later cleaned up.

The 25-volume set

Wow. I feel like Drawn & Quaterly really listens to its customers. I bought NonNonBa at a con, and I told the Drawn & Quaterly reps to tell the powers that be to please bring over more Shigeru Mizuki. Very Happy

I haven't read NonNonBa yet, but Onwards Towards are Noble Deaths was a very interesting and uniquely arresting memoir-ish take of the absurdity and tragedy of war. I look forward to reading Mizuki's honest, lighthearted take on the fantastical...

Thank you, D&Q!!!

Oh, be still my fangirl heart! 25 books! How lovely!!

And this is some of the best manga-related information I've heard in a long time. Huzzah, Kitaro!

OMG!!! I can't believe it! It's like my dream came true. Didn't expect this to get released but I felt a possibility. This is definitely on my list of reads when I recommend this to our collection. Now can Someone please license some of 'Go Nagai's comics. Kekko Kamen and Devilman is a start as many are not familiar with the mangas. So glad this is happening.
