I was just looking on the Bestbuy.com website and noticed that they have a digital version of the new animerica "magazine", the one usually given away at Borders. It's in Adobe format. I haven't seen it out at the bookstore yet so maybe you want a sneak peek. It features Saikano on the cover. Just go to www.bestbuy.com and click on "Movies" under "Music,Movies, Games & Toys" then click on "This Weeks Offers". You'll have to scroll a list of different dvd offers, including one that says "Animerica's Top Anime Picks". That's not the one you want. Keep scrolling down until you reach "Anime Buyer's Guide from Animerica". Once you click on that you will be able to open the Adobe file. The only problem is that the pictures are horribly rendered. But the text is fine. It also says that the magazine, or pamphlet, will be in Best Buy stores.

Wait, I thought Animerica was discontinued. And what makes Best Buy so special? It should be exclusive to Suncoast. BB's anime section is crap (DBZ, Gundam, and Pokemon).

EDIT: Take the comma out of the link.

The full-size version that you pay for was discontinued in June or July. Now it's like manga sized and is a thin little booklet of around 40 pages or so for free that you can pick up at Border's. and Waldenbooks...I think? And Best Buy now. I've found that every Best Buy is different in terms of selection. Some of them have great stock and some of them are horrible. They do have way better prices than Suncoast. IF you can find what you want.

Don't know about your Best Buy, but the one in my area is as well-stocked on anime DVDs as my local Suncoast is on non-hentai titles, although they don't carry much for OSTs and nothing for manga or collectibles. I get probably half of my new anime purchases there.

As for the Animerica thing, they had said they were going to be continuing in different special editions that were handed out at 'cons and certain stores. I don't remember hearing that Best Buy was one of those "certain stores," though.

Whoops, I mistook Best Buy for the new Circuit City that's by my house. Sorry.

Circuit City's anime selection is horrid. Nothing buy DBZ, Pokemon, and Gundam (and of course the label says "Gundam Wing DVDs). Oh, and live action movies that have nothing to do with anime (what the hell is Ocean's 11 doing next to 08th MS Team?). I ain't shopping for anime there, that's for sure.

Hopefully, this means that Best Buy is continuing to back its anime section. I know at certain points in the past year, I was beginning to get worried that some of the stores in my area were going to discontinue their anime sections altogether. While bestbuy.com has always had a "Animerica Picks" section today was the first time I have ever seen the actual magazine posted on their website, so it's something new they've worked out just this week.

I can't find it. I went to This Week's Offers (it doesn't say "specials") and got a list of DVDs. The only thing about Animerica was a Top 10 list in the anime section. No PDF file. Where exactly did you find it?

I got a couple of their mini mags from Waldenbooks in July, so this had been happening for awhile. The minimags don't have too much in them, just the most popular anime/manga that's out and some fanart. It's not as good as the big magazine Crying or Very sad but atleast it's free, right?

I edited the original post with more instructions so look back at that one. Sorry about the wording. Very Happy

The Suncoast near my home used to carry a bit of anime about 2 years ago and it wasn't until [as] took over the world that now there is a whole lot of anime on the shelves. And not just DVDs they carry a lot of merchandice from toys, wall scrolls, manga, and about 3 months ago a huge Hentai section was added. Personally I don't like/watch Hentai but a big section was set aside so it was difficult not to notice.Suncoast is the best place for anime around here but they sell for MSRP, except on release dates they average around $20 for new releases, so Best Buy is the cheapest but don't always have what you are looking for.

I never even heard of Animerica so do you think these ads will be put in Best Buys weekly ads?

Best Buy and Suncoast are both owned by the same company, Best Buy Co., Inc.

Of course they are going to continue backing it. Just like any other multi-location (by area) retail chain, store location determines (read demographics and affluence) what sort of stock is carried store-to-store. Certain stores in the Houston area have always had a smaller, less up-to-date selection, while others have always had a much greater selection. Some stores in the area have recently gone into a transition from one to other, and several have had their anime section moved to new planos.
