Ok this thread is to point out weird edits done to anime and to discuss why it was done.

For me a weird edit would be in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. In the episode where the fat guy duels his dad his dad uses duel monsters with "Dizzy" before their names (i.e Dizzy Angel). To explain why they are dizzy its because of "Hot Sauce Bottles". Why the hell would they choose Hot Sauce to replace Sake/Alcohol? That is just such a weird edit. How do you get dizzy off Hot Sauce? Really weird edit in my opinion. Then again it is Yu-G-i-OH!. Just a short question but in the original unedited version aired in japan it was changed from Sake/Alcohol to Hot Sauce right?

"Believe it!"

yugioh has a looot of weird edits

same with one piece... 4kids edits weird things out and replaces things with that don't make sense =_=

I think in japan achohal is as big of probelm here... in kid tv you're not supposed to show achohal.. so they have to find ways around it...

like cookies vs. riceballs... they think kids don't know what riceballs are

I can't remember a lot at the moment, but for naruto episdoe 2 on cartoon network, right after the harem no jutsu, ebisu was originaly blown into the sky from the utter force of the blood spewing from his nose, but cartoon network edited out all the blood so it kinda looked like he just flew away. Like instead of getting a huge nosebleed from all the nekkid ladies (actually naruto) it looks like he just died of utter happiness and flew to heaven. lol

I've also noticed that in many animes where there is a late night tofu delivery guy, they change him into a pizza delivery guy. Who knows why >_>

Because tofu delivery isn't very common in the U.S.? I think this one edit in Cardcaptors is the weirdest dub edit of all time. As we all know, Nelvana tried to cut out all the relationships in Cardcaptor Sakura, but the way they tried to cover it up in their dub of the episode "Sakura, Shaoran, And The Elevator" was really weird. When Sakura, Eriol, and Tomoyo were done with the teddy bear exhibit, Eriol originally brought up the fact that Shaoran had bought a teddy bear and Tomoyo mentions she saw him buying one at the craft store they went to earlier as well.

Sakura then asked Shaoran if he's given it to anyone yet and Shaoran starts blushing and then runs away because he was embarrassed about his feelings for Sakura. In the dub, they changed it so that Eli asked Li if he's noticed any unusual occurences and Madison comments that Li hasn't noticed anything strange happening at all. Then, Sakura says something like she hasn't noticed anything either, and then Li runs off almost as if he's mad at her for some unknown reason. Even when I was a Cardcaptors dubbie, I never understood that scene in the dub at all.

I only heard this from a friend, but in Gundam Seed I think it was, there was a part where some people were supposed to see a dead body with a teddy bear. They edited out the dead body so instead it looked like they were totally freaked out from seeing a teddy bear.

haha i reminds me of a yugioh edit when pegasus's flunky's were ambushing seto who was *i think* hacking something in a room. IN the japanese version they had guns, but because of the no-gun-on-kids-tv rule they edited them out so instead they were pointing fingers at him...

Haha. I remember when they translated riceballs as 'donuts' in Pokemon...I was pretty young and had never seen a rice ball, but I thought, 'No way that's a donut!' I thought it was sort of dessert with coconut shavings on it, then realized what it was a while later. But I'm not approving that change in the dub. If they had merely said, 'riceball' when I was young, I would have instantly understood. After all, 'riceball' is pretty self-explanatory.

And I'm not even going to start in on the Cardcaptors thing.

To add to weird edits the list (although this looks more like self-censorship), this is an interesting one from Japan. In Speed Grapher, an R rated show sometimes bordering on soft-core porn, there are no nipples on naked women. I found this hilarious when you consider what goes on in the show. All the girls with S&M outfits have pasties, there's tons of nipples obvious through clothing (but none seen), and the nipples of the detective that likes Saiga (I forgot her name) are visible through her neglige (although they too look like pasties) but the times she is naked she has none.

To add to the weirdness, when the diamond woman is about to get killed and falls on her back, the outline of her "nether regions" is quite graphic, something I found funny considering the Japanese taboo on women's private parts.

Actually, half the time, anime is for kids. The difference is that they're trying to market it to stupid kids here. ;)

I always found it odd how some deleted stuff from DiC's Sailor Moon dub would actually make it into the "Sailor Says".

Even a sight-gag with a baby peeing into the face of a character.

At least that's one that isn't 4Kid's fault, it was that way in the original Japanese version too.

That would be awesome. They should totally do that.

Here's something that's weird: In the Naruto dub, the blood editting system is messed up. It's okay to show blood dripping, blood trails from people's mouths, and bloody cuts/stabs. And it's okay to show someone being ripped violently in half. But it's not okay to show nosebleeds that aren't caused by violence and it's not okay to show blood flowing from a cut or stab(but this I can understand). In episode 6, what is so wrong with showing Naruto stabbing his hand? It's no worse than showing him with a bloody cut. They could have just cleaned up some of the blood. Also, in episode 9, they removed the shot of Zabuza being hit in the neck by needles. What's wrong with that? There was little blood on the impact. One thing that makes no sense at all, during some violent impact scenes such as when Zabuza cuts Kakashi in half, they change the color from red to blue. Why blue instead of red? Is blue less intense or something? *sigh* And with all of this I wonder what they did about the scene when Sasuke gets hit by needles. -_-
