I'm a fan of Tom's Hardware guide, but this article sucked.
The anime introduction was weak, and it barely looks at how anime is changing gaming, rather it looks at sexual roles in anime video games. The reason I posted it was that Toms Hardware Guide is the biggest and first major online hardware review site, and it's newsworthy that they've attempted to publish an article on how anime is affecting video games. -t |

Can't agree more. The author had little idea about anime and anime-influenced gaming, and s/he mentioned ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about female-oriented gaming market (otome games), which is much smaller than male-oriented bishoujo games. For those who can read Chinese, I highly recommend the two following articles, hosted on a blog by a Dr. Wu (Cantonese sp?) of Chinese University of Hong Kong: Female-oriented H-game and otome-dou BL game and fujoshi-dou I'm afraid that my J-game experience is not good enough to translate those two articles.

I was gonna reply a little miffed...
But it seems people have already done it! Did that article actually say anything? All I got out of it is that "GIRLS LIKE LONG HAIR AND GUYS LIKE BOUNCY BOOBS 'KAYTHXBYe?" |

Wow, that was pretty terrible. It pretty much WAS "girls like long hair, boys like boobs, kay bye." It really made no point whatsoever. And what is that part about male creators objectifying themselves because there are whipped, nosebleed characters? Then please explain all the games about rape and domination over women. Overall, a lame article filled with stupid blanket statements..

I've seen krazy otakus that make better stuff than this.
She is basicly saying that females dream about manga guys, and all male magna artist make nose bledding charecters. She needs to do alittle more studying before she writes about manga. |

That is one of the most amateurish articles I've ever read. The title didn't fit the article and the premise wasn't backed up. Was this article written by a junior high school student?
I'm not a great writer by any means, but I can crap better stuff than that. Like Tempest, I enjoy Tom's Hardware, so it makes me all the more disappointed to see an article like this posted. |

Now, normally articles of this lack-of-caliber would make me bitter and pissed and full of spiteful ranty spirit...
But this article sucked so much it was hysterical! The laughable patheticness really made my day! |

Huh!? What the heck did this article have to do with anime changing the US market on video games? I haven't seen one bishounen game come to the US. And the fact that he/she didn't even mention bishoujo games kinda confuses me since they have a much larger market. All of the anime infuenced games in the US and that most people would know about are in the RPG genre, which the author barely touched upon. This person seriouly needs to do some research on the correct topic.

Seems they just needed to throw an article together for the sake of getting some new news up. There's hardly any real anime influence in games these days, most anime related titles don't even get to the U.S. and those that do don't do to well.
I suppose sometimes you just have to find something new to write about, regardless of how valuable the article truly is. |

Are you kidding!? Some of the best selling titles ever have been anime influenced. Titles such as Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Xenogears, Xenosaga, Chrono Trigger, Disgaea, Star Ocean, and many, many more have all been anime influenced and have sold very well in the US. Also, a game doesn't have to be based off of a specific anime for it to be anime influenced. |

You're right, but overall that's still not very significant and still primarily limited to RPG releases. Obviously since a large portion of the console industry is based in Japan there's going to be such influences but regardless of that the influence is still minor and restricted to specific genre's. Then you take in the PC market and anime influence is virtually absent.
Very few major releases have been anime focused, probably less this year than in years prior. There are big names of course, there's little reason to even focus on something otherwise, but let's not fool ourselves as the influence in the American gaming market is still comparatively minor. |
