This is so depressing. Aono's performances in Dragon Ball were some of my favorite in the show. His Murasaki, Piccolo Daimaou, and God were very memorable characters.

Crap. And I was just rewatching Dangaioh too.

My heart goes out to his family and friends.

Truly one of the best. He might be best known for his Yamato role, where his character was rather like the Japanese Mr. Spock.

His work on Dragonball was especially notable to me because he literally played both God and the Devil with Kami and Piccolo Daimao and played both roles perfectly.

He will be missed.

This is truly a sad day for the anime industry. Aono was one of the greatest voice actors of our time, and the write-up doesn't mention some of my personal favorite roles of his, which include:

- Gwen Khan in "Outlaw Star"
- Doohan in "Cowboy Bebop"
- Solmon Moto (Dub Name) in "Yu-Gi-Oh!"

I'm on the verge of crying right now. Takeshi Aono was truly a great talent, and he will be missed by members of countless fandoms, and by the entertainment industry as a whole. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

Farewell, Kami...

I hoped he'd recover from his stroke, but I guess that didn't happen. Sad

Murasaki, Kami, Shiro Sanada, Sugoroku Mutou, Dr. Wily, Tazuna, Dracule Mihawk...and those are just the roles I've heard him in personally. Rest in peace.

I will always know him as Mihawk in One Piece. He was such a great voice actor with so much range. Another role of his was the Joker in the Japanese version of Batman: The Animated Series (among other recent Batman media). That's a tough role, and I'm sure he did a great job!

Hirohiko Kakegawa has been voicing Mihawk for about two years, since Aono stopped voice acting after his stroke (Bin Shimada also replaced him as Kami in DBZ Kai).

Oh, I didn't know. *doesn't follow ONE PIECE closely*

In any case, sad that we've lost someone so prolific.

God, this guy was a great VA and all the characters he's play have always added to a series. I am really gonna miss this guy and it's hard to image any other person playing an old character just because its been a part of so many anime series I've watched and own.

His biggest role was Tomozou (grampa) from Chibi Maruko-chan.

Ironically his character is the only one who the person he is based on has passed away. Every other person the other characters are based on are still living.

Another interesting fact, while every character is based on a real person, 'ojichan' was actually designed as the exact opposite of her real grandfather, who she hated. Tomozou was created as the grandfather she had wanted.

This is very sad. He and his voice will be missed.

Takeshi Aono also played both Katsuhito Masaki (Tenchi's grandfather) and Nobuyuki Masaki (Tenchi's father) in the Tenchi Muyo multiverse. Crying or Very sad
