As for the topic of the article, if 2chan's anything like 4chan, I don't blame the real owners for wanting to distance themselves(though they should fire that secretary - isn't part of that job keeping her trap shut?).

I suppose thats one way to avoid culpability -- don't have anyone thats actually able to answer anything, nor read Japanese...

Unless I guess they had a warrant to trace the payments for the servers in the US.

2chan is actually nothing like 4chan. Images aren't allowed (Japan aren't allowed) and most people are nicer. Mainly because people there are introverted Otaku.

You're thinking of 2ch, Chagen. 2chan *IS* very much like 4chan. Which isn't surprising since the original board code for 4chan came from 2chan. They both support images, etc.

2ch is the text-only site that I believe blocks non-Japanese IPs. They also have a far wider range of forums than 2chan. There are no IP restrictions on 2chan, although they are known to ban certain IP blocks due to abuse. (My entire ISP is apparently banned from posting because of this, wonderful.)

Oh. I didn't know that there was a 2ch AND a 2chan. Oops.

All they gotta do is trace who's paying for the US servers and freeze those assets............

Blocking part is backwards.
2ch.net doesn't block IPs except when dealing with spam.
2chan.net blocks all posts from outside Japan always.

I thought this was known for years though... I remember reading it a long while back.

Also, I originally read it as being owned by the Shell gas company too. :p

heh when did 2chan do anything illegal though? What lead to this police investigation? Still interesting and I can see why they set it up this way. Wonder how you get one of those peach jobs where you are a secretary for 200 companies with no real duties...wonder if they are liable in anyway expect not.
