Can anyone suggest any mangas that maybe deal with lesbian relationships, but aren't totally outragiously innapropriate? Something like....Gravitation, just with girls?

Well not that its anime but the Ghost in the Shell manga had two pages edited out of the North American printing due to explicit sesbian sex. Let me know if you want the pages and I can email them to you. |

You mean shoujo ai animes? The only real shoujo ai I know is Steel Angel Kurumi 2. The relationships in most shoujo ai animes are only implied and whether they're romantic or not is debatable. From what I hear, girls having crushes on other girls is common in Japan (It's more of a idolizing thing than a lesbian crush)
Steel Angel Kurumi 2 is the only shoujoai anime I know where the romance isn't just implied. All the girls including Kurumi all try to kiss Kurumi's new master Nako who is the great granddaughter of Kurumi's old master who she was also in love with. It isn't really good though. |

I'm opposed to unstraight anime (ethical, moral, and religious reasons) but I'll help you out. Sailor Moon is noted for two of the scouts as being lesbians.

actually three if you include sailor star fighter but the most they (sailor uranus and neptune)have done is hold hands, which is nothing. I guess it depends on the age group, I'm a hetrosexual female and I don't think yuri is inappropriate, for children yes because its porn, its like yaoi, many fangirls can state that its not inappropriate and yaoi is like yuri only with a different gender. If you don't want to see girls makeing out then you dont have to watch it, I don't watch yuri but I don't see how it can be inappropriate for older teens and adults when the manga or anime clearly states the suggested age.

I'm quite surprised that with the recent yuri / shoujo-ai fever in Japan, only MariMite was mentioned.
 Check the Wikipedia's entry of yuri; it gives a list of yuri / shoujo-ai titles as follows:
Many of them are quite well-hidden and very benign e.g. Azumanga Daioh, Cardcaptor Sakura, and ROD. I'll just introduce the most "tasty" non-hentai title I've watched completely: Kannaduki no Miko. In spoiler[episode 8, Chikane raped Himeko (not shown visually, of course), and when Souma came to the rescue it was too late: Himeko's clothings, including her underwear, were skattered on the floor]. I couldn't believe that it was aired on TV, and I was more surprised that it got licensed in US. Wondering how much editing will it receive.
The manga counterpart was even "juicier": spoiler[in front of the lunar shrine, Chikane licked and then inserted a ritual scepter (not sure about the material; could be either wooden or metallic) forcibly into Himeko's vagina, who's still a virgin]. Poor Himeko. 
spoiler[(´Д｀；)ハァハァ] Although I've never watched Mai-Hime, from what I've learned it has described shoujo-ai relationships with high intensity -- high enough for the girls to spoiler[kill each other]. EDIT: Another title not listed by Wiki is Kashimashi - Girl Meets Girl. It's much more benign and funnier than Kannaduki no Miko. |

Ah, it's a great time to be an anime fan. 
This series is also slated to be produced as an anime TV series at some point. ANN lists it as a late 2005 series, but I've heard 2006 quoted elsewhere for a premiere. |

Hmm... just how old are you? Trust me, once one gets past puberty (however late in life this may be), it gets a lot less embarassing. Lord, I could probably think of a dozen subjects that I'd find it more embarassing to ask about than this. For one thing, if I were the original poster, I'd be embarassed at not having been able to spell "outrageously". See, that's something more embarassing than soft porn, right there - bad spelling. What exactly IS Azumanga genre-wise anyway? Some say it's shojo, others say it's loli, others say it's yuri. WHAT THE HELL IS IT REALLY (other than one of the funniest animes I've ever seen)!?! |
