Is anyone else sort of bothered by this? Granted you only really notice it if you watch adv's dub tracks, but they seem to reuse the same people over and over again, project after project. The only two i don't mind are Hillary Haag, and Greg Ayers because i enjoy their work, but the rest just get repetitive very quickly. Thoughts? Opinions?

It's not like they're the only dub studio that does that. I don't know who Viz uses, but Viz uses the same VA's too. A lot of the VAs from InuYasha were also in Ranma 1/2. It doesn't bother me at all though. Dubs have come a long way and I think most VAs nowadays do a good job. As long as a dub isn't atrocious I'll enjoy it wheter I'm hearing the same VAs over and over or not. As long as they don't play all of their characters in the same way (unless it's a typecast sort of thing) then I'm good. Heck, back in the day Speed Racer had a voice cast of four people.

ADV's facilities are located in Texas, so there's only a limited pool of VAs they have to use. They have been crossing over with some of FUNimation's actors lately, though.
And the Ocean Studios dubs (they're the ones Viz uses, and Bandai for some shows as well) are up in Canada so again they have a limited pool. The Los Angeles dub studios also tend to reuse the same actors, but they seem to have more range and are mixed up more. And of course, there are more actors in the area. |

Personally, It doesn't bother me at all. As long as the VAs' play the character correctly and a do a good job with the role then I am fine. But if they play there roles the same as they played other roles when characters were meant to be played like that then I can't stand it. But all and all I haven't seen a problem with it,so, I don't mind.

Opps, Ad I forgot to write something else. I also kind of have fun picking out some of the actors and saying what other roles they played in. Gives me something to do so it isn't really bad.

I'm not bothered, as long as the actor fits the role. And as rmember love said; it's kinda fun to be able to recognize and pick out their voices. Besides the seiyuu in Japan do the same thing, they'll work on multiple projects at the same time.

I don't mind much.ADV brings out some of the best animes(in my opinion)and Hillary Haag is one of my fav VA's.she does some
good voice acting. |

Hmm, interesting. I usually have a very good ear for hearing familiar voices, and for the most part i think all animes do great jobs in how they choose their VAs. ADV just seems to me like almost every character for every show i watched has continueously used the same VAs. I don't think any of the voices are bad, i just wish they had a little more variety. Any way, good stuff. It's nice to know that there are so many open minded viewers

I'm quite disturbed, but not by the re-use of VAs, just the voices in general. The first dub of ADV I ever heard was Evangelion on DVD back in 1999 (or maybe 2000). This was before I knew what Eva was and I had seen a couple of episodes at a friend's house. I wasn't really paying attention during my initial viewing, so I decided to borrow the DVD when he was done. When I got the chance to borrow it, I took it home, and not being a big advocate of the whole dub/sub issue yet, I decided "what the heck, I'll try this in Japanese." And since then, I've never been able to force myself upon any ADV dub to this day. Not to say I don't give them a chance, as I always give the first two or three episodes a listen. However, I just can't stand the sounds of anyone's voice. Ironically, as little of their dubbing as I listen to, I've come to identify at least a couple voices that I dislike a great deal: Chris Patton and Monica Rial. I don't have any kind of personal grudge against the people at ADV, but with all the hype and praise I keep hearing from everyone else, I guess I just sort of developed this personal enmity for all of their dubs. Whether it be the 5.1 tracks draining all the bass from their voices, their constant disregard for Japanese pronunciations and continuing trend of "tweaking" the script for American audiences, or just the bad acting I tend to percieve with my own ears, I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks this way. And for those of you that are asinine enough to label me as being some kind of dub-hater, rest assured that I do like dubs and that this is just my opinion. |

I actually really like listening to their dubs now. In the previous years I was much like Tony in that I hated their dubs for some shows, especially Eva. However there are a lot of shows that they have done that I have actually liked the dub more.
Kino's Journey has a really good dub crew in my opinion. At first I did not really like Hermes voice, but as I actually watched more of the series I saw that the voice really fit a lot more. Kaleido Star has a mixed dub, almost all of the main characters have awesome voice acting (Sora, Layla, Kalos, Yuri, Anna, Mia, Rosette), but the part of Ken was really mis-cast. Overall though it's a pretty strong dub. My personal favorite dub actually comes from them too in Princess Nine. I absolutely love Monica Rial's role as Izumi Himuro, and Hillary Haag's role as Ryo Hayakawa. Every part sounds how I imagine those characters should sound(the exception being Nene). Of course they suffer from some poor dubs still, but when their best VA's are being used for main roles those dubs tend to shine. I've actually been really impressed with their gradual improvement over the last two years especially! ~Lonewolf |

Yes but im not talking about one or two VAs a show, i am talking about the same 10 people seem to be in every adv dub. Oh well. My friend and I noticed this and i thought others might hae been bothered by it too, but i guess not. But this was not a topic saying ADVs dubs suck. I really like their dubs. It just when i hear the same voices for the lead roles over and over and over again i thought it kinda lowers the quality of the show. Of course im sure that if i put some time between the animes i watched then that wouldnt be a problem. Course college is helping me in that respect.

Doesn't bother me. If I go watch War of the Worlds I'm not going to freak out because I watched the Last Samurai the other night also with Tom Cruise in it.

This doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I've noticed that ADV has been using some fresher talent in some of their recent releases (like Blake Shepard and Brittney Karbowski) to go along with their more established talents like Monica Rial and the aformentioned Hilary Haag and Greg Ayers. Heck, The Simpsons have been using the same VAs for the last 17 years and they're still as entertaining as they were when they first started. After all, VAs need to put food on the table just like you and me, so they need the work.
