Anyone else having issues with the DVD? Here is what is going on with mine. The audio drops out slightly in various parts around the disk. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to it (like in Appleseed when the audio would drop whenever a gun was fired or a metallic noise would be heard), it just plays fine then gets a little quieter during a conversation, or the opening sequence, or wherever.

Also, of less annoyance, the subtitles over the opening theme run as English on Ep 1 and 3, but as an Anglocised version of Russian on Ep 2 and 4. What the hell is up with that? Supposedly, there is a textless version of the opening on the Extras of the disc, but I couldn't find it. Anyone know if it exists or is just a misprint on the cover?

Also, a question about the series itself. spoiler[Is there a connection between the fact that in Episode 4 there were apparently 11 choppers that had gone on the loose and in Episode 1 they were chasing a group known as The Individual 11?] It seemed like an odd coincidence, to me.

Umm.. because the song is in Russian. Just like alternating OP subs of English and Romanji.

I haven't got around to watching it yet, but the DTS dvd didn't stay in place since it is stacked on top of the other DVD, so it rattled about during shipping. I hope it wasn't too scratched to play. The other thing that slightly annoyed me about the packaging is that the spine unlabled. This was cool back when Akira was my only labeless tin on the shelf, but I noticed my copy of Mars Daybreak also came with a blank spine. I wish they would use a case similar to the really cool Appleseed tin.

My friend has the special edition DVD. I watched the entire thing no problem. I don't like the casing either, but it worked fine. I hope you dont have a bad one, thats a tough break.

I guess I should mention that I didn't get the Special Edition of it. I figured I didn't want to buy an individual tin since they will probably release a large tin for all of 2nd Gig when the last disc is released, like they did for SAC.

The version I bought only had one disc in it, and I set the DVD to play in Stereo, not 5.1 since I don't have a big sound system on my TV.

Hmm... Well, that's annoying. I just tried playing it on my computer and the same issue with audio dropping out occurred there, as well. Unfortunately, Best Buy has a policy against returning opened CDs and DVDs, so if this is just a glitchy disc I'm stuck with it.

They should allow you to exchange it with the exact same item. And you might not even need the receipt.

Send it to Bandai.

And about the subtitle alterations in the OP - all anime DVD do that.

I too bought the standard edition. I watched it twice and I don't recall anything that was wrong with it. If you still have your receipt Best Buy will let you exchange it. If not, lesson learned I guess Wink.

Could be. spoiler[Aside from the #11, both incidents had to do with the refugees. In ep. 4, those two guys in black that went into the dead pilot’s apartment before Section 9 got there switched some papers (evidence). Also I believe that the pilot's death wasn't an accident from his heart condition. Just before he dies we see what looks like some sort of a micro machine bursting two sack like objects (not blood cells mind you) in his bloodstream. This led me to believe that the situation wasn't resolved. This is just speculation, but it could be that inside the sacks there was some sort of toxin that stopped the pilot’s heart. The pilot was taking heart medication and I think that whoever caused the incident hid the stuff in his medication.] Even if there isn't a connection between the two episodes, I'm sure there is much more to be seen. We'll just have to wait for vol. 2 to be sure Smile.

Edit: grammatical errors

No issues with my special edition copy but when I bought volume 2 of the first season (Non special edition) instead of the regular disc I got a mislabeled DTS disc instead I just wrote to the company about it today to see if they'll replace it. I suggest you do the same or return it (They have to take it back if it's defective so just say it is and they'll exchange it) if you want it fixed.

The second 2nd Gig disc arrived today, and the discs have a little foam disc holder to prevent the DVDs from falling loose! It looks like Bandai did something to fix the problem. The unlabled spine problem still exists, especially since both 2nd Gig DVDs are the same color, unlike the Blue Mars Daybreak or the Red Avenger tins. I'm seriously considering using a Sharpie and some masking tape to label them myself, especially if Bandai releases other titles in tins.

I dont know what this means. Are you saying that you are listening and DURING the conversation the audio drops or the audio drops BEFORE the conversation begins. I watch a lot of movies in the middle of the night and I notice that when a conversation is taking place, the audio is lower is just about every show but the volume becomes really loud during action scenes.
