Yo, Whats shakin' everyone?
I was just wondering if anyone has seen the show AeonFlux created by Peter Chung? It aried on MTV but I do not get that channel. The live action movie is coming out in theatures on December second so I was just wondering if anyone knew whether or not the movie is hardcore to the story line of the show or not and how good it is. |

Aeon Flux is not an anime. Why are you discussing it here?

Starwind: Perhaps, but Chung worked with anime companies.
Kyle: The original series is out on dvd 11/30, and previews are up at http://www.themoviebox.net/movies/2005/0-9ABC/AeonFlux/trailer.php. |

It isn't anime but I believe it is in the encyclopedia for anime.

No. It's under "Not anime, but related." |

Honestly, I hated AeonFlux and i hate all of peter chung's work. It's not the story it’s just the simple fact that his animation is rigid and scares the crap out of me! The most I remember from Aeonflux was a girl who could remove part of her spine, and got the crap beat out of her a lot... Most animation on MTV at the time was creepy, like if anyone remembers the show MAX... ahhhh it brings back bad memories. Big blue guy running around killing stuff... although I went to a club in New York once and there was ambience music to a Video montage of MAX projected on a big white screen and it was pretty cool (Me an anime geek from massacusetts in a club in New York… looooonnnng story ). But! My opinion is totally biast I suppose... but then again I have never met a fan of Peter Chung's work (reign, matriculated, Aeonflux)... are there any out there? |

I watched one episode of AeonFlux and couldn't take anymore, it had no dialogue! I'll go see the live action movie though no matter what, just to see if it's like all the other comic/films that have been released recently. If it's anything like Tank Girl or Sin City then I will be very happy. The Maxx (which is what msi435 is talking about [which was totally awesome]) is worth checking out.

Chung was a little off in Aeon Flux, (the upcoming game looks solid though) but I loved his work in Reign: The Conqueror. A completely different take on the story of Alexander the Great, math and physics majors would love it!

I remember watching this on MTV and I didn't really get into it. I only saw it because I actually watched Reign The Conqueror every night on [as] and they kept saying "from the creater of Aeon Flux" so I checked it out, and I have to say I liked Reign better. The movie might be good and the girl looks really hot so I might check it out. I didn't know Aeon Flux wasn't an anime though but whatever.

Peter Chungs designs were.....I mean, his work seems like that all his characters are either Anorexic or has some Abino Pigmentation Problems. His work really looks like he's going into a very weird way. I can't put my finger on it, just hsi style of design just....feels uncomfortable.
I find it great that Hollywood has gone a different route and has cast someone that looks pleasing to the eyes than that anorexic mess on MTV, and for me, i'll see it. |

I actually liked The Maxx. I was a big fan of the comic--it was one of those situations where it was more different than anything I had ever seen before. I thought the show was very creepy, indeed. But that was a good thing. |

I watched the Ralph Bakshi / Frank Frazetta film, Fire and Ice, recently and in the audio commentary they mentioned that Peter Chung worked on some of the animation.

You are correct, the proportions of the Chung character designs are very exagerrated, but that's art. Most certainly, his style of art is an acquired taste, altho I liked Reign. AeonFlux is another matter. Plenty of style, but not enuf substance (sub-par writing), as best as I can recall. I think he also did a Saturday morning import on Fox a few yrs back. Some android chick w/ a black hat and long cape, but that's all I can remember. What I'd like to know: why is AeonFlux NOT anime ? |

Because sticklers like to reserve the term "anime" to describe only animation from Japan. I've always found this mildly amusing considering that the Japanese call ALL animation "anime", but occassionally refer to the animation created in Japan as "Japanimation" to distinguish it from animation from other countries. |
