I feel bad for anyone, especially those who travel such a great distance, when they attend a con as a guest and the session they host only has a handful of people show up. Sad

I'm sorry to hear that Izumi Matsumoto's panel was so empty; I hope he wasn't discouraged. I wonder what made him decide to go to a relatively small con? This also makes me wonder how full his panel at AX 2011 was.

I was unable to attend the panel Friday myself due to being preoccupied at the time, the Q&A was at 3:30 in the afternoon if I remember correctly. Sunday around noon I was able to catch an autograph session with Matsumoto and purchase one of his artbooks along with getting two sketches of KOR's Madoka. It was honestly a bit of a last minute decision, but it's one I'm glad I did so in the end because I was able to take home something unique from the convention. Smile

Here's a photo of said sketches for those who'd like to see: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v119/Greatsg/DSC03426.jpg

Why is anyone shocked about the panel having a low turnout? The anime's been OOP for years now.

It is not shocking, but it is a damn shame. In any case he is the manga creator and had little to do with the anime. The manga has never been in print in English as far as I know.

Heck, go to Japanese anime guest panels for NEW anime (that isn't from a current Shounen JUMP title) and you'll probably see a pretty disappointing turnout. Which is one of MANY reasons I say using "people at conventions" as a metric for expected anime/manga SALES is ridiculously misguided.
