All right, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie just finished its broadcast on Adult Swim. Here's some things I found strange abou it (the presentation, not the movie):
1) The movie was shown in fullscreen. CN usually shows movies in widescreen, however, I don't know if this idea was on the part of CN or Columbia Tristar or why it was done. 2) The title card used was from the Japanese version of the movie. It reads (in Japanese) "Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' On Heaven's Door" and not "Cowboy Bebop: The Movie." Because of the copyright issues with the title, I have no idea why this was done. 3) The credits were in Japanese (they should've skipped the kanji and went right to the English text) along with sped-up animation (I hate when AS does that; it was so obvious here). And in case you're wondering, here are the edits: 1) Spike's "You take too long to take a shit!" changed to "You take too long to take a crap!" 2) ISSP chief's "Shit!" muted. 3) Shot of ISSP chief saying "Shit!" cut. I think you meant to say the movie was shown in Fullscreen. It should have been shown in Widescreen because there were a few scenes where the pan and scan was very obvious.

I didn't understand that last statement but anyway those edits dont really surprise me and I really liked the movie but I've seen it so many times i didn't bother tonight but I'm sure watching it on DVD is always the best way to go as in it is more enjoyable with any Anime Movie Or TV Series.

That last statement is directed at Kyle Pope, creator of The Edit List in the Columns section. And, FYI, I don't mind the edits either. In fact, I knew those would be the exact three things that would be edited for TV after seeing the DVD for the first time.
Those cheap bastards. In Spike's line about taking craps, Steve Blum didn't even re-record the line. They just deleted "shit" and pasted in the "crap" from "Don't pull that Art of War crap on me!" If you listened carefully, you would've noticed. |

I didn't get a chance to catch it last night so thanks for write up Starwind.
I'm really disappointed by this, I've always sung the praises for [adult swim] for showing anime the way it was meant to be shown, no idea why now they decieded to show it in pan & scan. As far as I know, the DVD was only released in widescreen 1.85:1, it's a shame that some idiot involved decieded to show fullscreen. Not as bad as the G4 Anime Unleashed streching the screen and distorting the aspect ratio, but still a big no-no as far as I'm concerned. |

I saw the movie and found it real good.the fullscreen was plus
for me,but it would've been nice to see it in widescreen.i was somehow expecting spike to say "You take too long to take a shit!" instead of "You take too long to take a crap!".overall i enjoyed the movie alot and i'll make sure to get the DVD movie. |

If they did show in widescreen, the thousands of people that still have 4:3 TVs will log on and shout in all mighty voice, "Why is the movie looked sqished." I don't see CN ever doing something in widescreen, atleast for many years.

Well, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex was all shown in its original widescreen format. I think Paranoia Agent was also shown in widescreen, but I can't remember. I think, as a rule, that Adult Swim tries to air widescreen series and movies as widescreen whenever possible. And I have a 4:3 TV and I still prefer widescreen presentation. |

The only thing weird about that movie was how Faye's top stayed on, the way she was rolling around and all. Her nipples must be adhesive.

Yep, and add Samurai Champloo to that list, it is also shown in the original widescreen aspect ratio, same as the DVDs. |

umm... did we watch the same movie? cause there was a hell of a lot of edits. they cut Vincent shooting the guy on the train, blood was edited from spike getting shot, gunshots were muted for no particular reason at all... that's all i can remember right off the top of my head. i'll have to watch it again. |

Why any of the three are done is beyond me. It really pisses me off to see them use those (especially the original logo) for [as]'s broadcast but not as at least an alternate angle for the DVD  . I could've sworn that "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" was tossed due to copyright or trademark issues, but they use it on a wider distributed medium than DVD?
Meh. Using the original Kanji credits annoyed me too, not because I rather see my credits in English, but because I wish they'd at least put it on the DVD. But I guess that wasn't the case (again, why put that on ENGLISH SPEAKING TV, when you have perfectly presentable English credits). It's kinda similar to what I.G USA gave them with FLCL, whereas the DVD used the English credits and the TV used the Japanese  .

I have to say when I started watching anime I had no idea it came from japan until I saw japanese credits in a show. I would see that all the studio's name's are in english and I thought they were american company's . I might have been stupid ...
