Heh. And you think fights in Naruto or Dragonball Z drag on? Wait until they cover a 5-day Test match!

Seriously though, if this was fansubbed, I'd watch it.

This might just be the first sports anime I'll watch.

Go, Aussies. 2-up against India in the current test series after an innings and 68 run victory in Sydney. Very Happy And, wow, did the records tumble in that match.

India may have destroyed themselves, but full credit to Michael Clarke, he really earned that triple-century. And I say that as a Kiwi.

I've said it before that Anime needs to reach out to India, the world's second most-populous country with a huge growth rate and a new middle-class sporting lots of disposable income. One could even say that the Anime industry's long-term survival depends on expanding there (amongst other places).

So I'm happy to hear this news. Everything's gotta start somewhere.

It isn't hard. Next time you meet a Pakistani, Indian or Aussie, just ask them. If they're Aussie, giving them a beer may help.

I could help you, but I couldn't explain it as well as an ardent supporter of the game.

And not only are they changing the game, but they're changing the setting to outside Japan too! Laughing

Cricket is a good excuse to drink beer all day.

... right, and they'll somehow forget to change the title Kyojin no Hoshi and character names to something Hindi Rolling Eyes

Whitewashing = white guy playing Kaneda in Akira
White man acting = white guy playing Johnson in ProjectX, where ProjectX is an adaptation of Akira

Ah, yes, especially Test Cricket, which crams the excitement of an afternoon of baseball into five days of play.

Basically, the team that is out in the field goes all out to get the team that is in at bat to go out. There's 11 at bat so of course they have to do that 10 times. Then its the other way around again, then its the other way around again, then, if they make it that far in five days of play, its the the other way around again, and then they're done. If the ball flies out to the boundary its 6, if it rolls out to the boundary its 4, if you can swap places with the batsman who is not batting before the bowling team gets you or him its 1, and if you fly out you are, of course, out.

Pretty simple game, really. Bowl fast with a good line and length, mix it up a bit and then outside of Australia and the West Indies give it some good spin after the pitch has started to get some grip, and you'll be alright.

Oh and "silly" means "bloody crazy". As in "you have to be bloody crazy to be standing there". And the gully does not carry run-off, but if you're canny it can sometimes carry fly outs.

And a fine leg (especially a deep fine leg) has nothing to do with bowling a maiden over.

I observed that many academics in Oz, love cricket. I think that's because you can have the cricket on TV, look up when there's a big noise, and if its an exciting play, you'll get two or three replays and then you can go back to work and get another four or five essays graded.

Heh, yeah, that's the part that gets me. The game itself doesn't seem ridiculously complex, but just the concept of any single sports game/match/round that takes days to resolve...it's out there. Kind of like if every tennis match was the equal of the Isner vs. Mahut marathon at Wimbledon two years ago.

Cricket is actually a ridiculously simple sport.

It's the terminology which is so incredibly hard to figure out! I've been learning the sport over the last year or so, and I really enjoy it, but the hardest part was learning how to understand the commentators and read the statistics.

Take the India-Australia test match we've been talking about. When the match was over, the final scoreline read something like "India 191,400-all out, Australia 659 for 4 declared -- Australia wins by an innings and 68 runs."

WTF?!?

In American English, that's "Australia 659, India 591". All the other stuff is just shorthand that gives you some idea of what happened in the match. India scored 191 the first time out, 400 the second. "659 for 4 declared" means Australia quit batting after 659 runs and 4 outs to give themselves enough time to win. "Wins by an innings" means Australia were still ahead and didn't have to bat in the last innings, like in the bottom of the ninth in baseball.

And every spot on the field has a different, seemingly random name like "square leg", "long-on", or "cover point". I have a book of sports rules that has a chart showing what all the names mean, or else I'd be lost.

But those of us from baseball countries have no leg to stand on when it comes to cricket. Baseball is way more complicated. (Of course, being American, I still prefer it.)
