hello everybody hows everything going with you all?
hope you're all fine i'm a new user by the way and i'm so into MECHA anime can i get any more suggestions or opinions about MECHA anime? and is it the best type of animations or what? and which is your favorite?and whis is your worst and why for both cases? and name some MECHA anime cartoons that you would like to watch again for the second time in your life ... .... ..... ...... ....... ........ ......... .......... one more thing y doesn't any body love ALBEGAS ?

Welcome to the forums! My favorite mech anime would have to Evangelion... but then again I have only seen like 3 mech anime in my life
 (Eva, Escaflowne, and Gundam Wing)! I don't know too much about mech anime so I can't really help ya with suggestions.

I just finished Full Metal Panic! and loved it. Nadesico was a very pleasant surprise as well. I would recommend both of these without flinching. I watched the first two episodes of the remastered Evangelion series and so far so good. It may sound weird, but before watching it, I got the feeling a new baseball fan must feel when walking into Wrigley Field or Fenway Park. You just know you have to experience these if you're a fan. Long story short, I've got some Eva under my belt now, and although I don't know if I'll love it in the end, it's just good to be here. I did not initially buy these three series especially because they were mecha shows, it was the storylines I was after. One series I did love initially for the ultra-cool machines was Robotech. Oh to be a Destroid operater......(the one that had cannons for arms and machine guns for eyes is my all-time favorite piece of Robotech mecha)

I'm also a mecha anime fan. Here are some of my favorites
RahXephon - my favorite Anime period. Sure, you've got your stereotypical kid suddenly the best mecha pilot needs to save the world underpinnings, but there's more. It's got a great story (besides said cliche), and great action. It also has one of the saddest scenes I've ever seen, as well as a nice love story. Highly recomended. Neon Genesis Evangelion - This is a classic. If you haven't seen it yet, you owe it to yourself. It shares the same cliche with RahXephon, and has some similar story elements (Some even would say that RahXephon ripped off EVA). I think that both of their stories are different enough to merrit sepperate purchases/viewings. EVA has more action/mecha fighting scenes - some of the most insane I've ever seen. It also has a mind-warping, intriguing story line. It's a bit older, though, and the ending doesn't satisfy everybody. Mobile Suit Gundam - The grandaddy of all Mecha. This show is pretty old, which made it hard for me to get into. But it does have a great story, and is where everything started. This is also pre-requisite for all of the other UC Gundam shows and OVAs - 0080, 0083, 8th MS Team, Z, etc etc. The movie trilogy isn't too hard to find, and can be had for a reasonable price. This condenses the entire show into 3 2+ hour movies. Once you get caught up, you can watch Char's Counterattack. I saw that movie before I'd even seen the 0079 movie trilogy, and loved it. Some other Mecha shows I've seen or am in the process of watching that seem good are: Macross Zero - not as focused on the Mecha, but a beautiful story and artwork make up for it. Nadesico - an older but very funny show with some cool mecha battles. Only 2 discs in. "GAI!!!" Dai-Guard - Another old but funny one. The robot actually falls apart during the first battle! Eureka7 - Only about 6 eps in, but seems to be cool - so far. Art looks FLCL-ish Gundam Wing - Has nothing to do with the original Gundam 0079 or movie trilogy except for the name. Not a bad show, though. My first experience with mecha shows, so maybe I'm seeing it thorugh rose colored glasses - I DID enjoy Thundercats once... Some shows that looked ineresting or I want to see: Gravion Z and ZZ Gundam Turn-a Gundam Sousei no Aquarion Sokyuu no Fafner |

Great mecha series:
DANGAIOH OVAs - famed designers that worked on MACROSS did this old school series, check out the "PSYCHIC WAAVE!" MACROSS DYRL - check out the VF1S and VF1A w/Fast Packs! Great artwork and mecha battles. MACROSS PLUS - still one of the BEST fighter battles ever animated, check it out! GUNDAM 0083 - beautiful mecha designs and battles that will blow your mind away w/the attention to detail GUNBUSTER OVAs - not really a mecha series, but the BusterMachine does have some good moments focusing on the tech, worthy of watching GUYVER OVAs - now not 100% mecha but it is a bioarmor that incorporates some incredible mecha like features, certainly worth watching, especially the first over series, the second quality was noticably lessened |

Somebody's asked in my area of expertise: - Space Runaway Ideon: A Super Robot Series that blatantly defied the conventions of its time and became Legendary. There's really no other word to describe it. - Aura Battler Dunbine: A truly different Mecha Series with relatively small Robots set in the medieval-like world of Byston Well. - Mobile Fighter G-Gundam: A loving tribute to the Super Robot Series of yore with a fantastic Romance to boot. Not to mention some of the coolest/silliest Gundam Designs in the history of the franchise. - Getter Robo Armageddon: A fusion of the classic 70s Super Robot Shows and the original vision of creator Go Nagai with a deeper plot to boot. Though the Ryoma-less Episodes aren't all that great the rest if the OVA is excellent. And the English Dub is superb. That should keep you busy for quite some time.
I've seen most my favourite Series at least 3 times.
What a load of bollocks. Recommend the most "popular" rubbish out there, ANN!

I like the shows that focus a lot more on the characters than the mechs (like Mobile Police Patlabor, Blue Gender, and Macross II: Lovers Again) or the super flashy Go Nagai-esque giant robot vs. Godzilla reject shows from the 70's, specifically Getter Robo (the only one where i've come to like the actual cast instead of just the flashy chessiness), but i also dig Mazinger Z and Go-Lion (Voltron)...
But for the most part, i generally dislike mechs (especially Gundam)... sorry

I'm going to go and recommend Armored Trooper Votoms, since it's incredibly underrated but very awesome and hardcore as far as storytelling goes. Definitely worth checking out if you can find it.

I'd suggest two series recently released in thinpack boxsets from ADV Full Metal Panic and RahXephon. Both of them are excellent.
If you don't mind a little of the fantasy genre with your mecha I suggest Vision of Escaflowne. Good storyline and characters and you can't go wrong with music from Yoko Kanno. Also it's not really a hardcore mecha anime but Infinite Ryvius is a really great science fiction series with a dose of mecha as well. The plot is highly entertaining and it's very much character driven. |

Well most Mech Shows generally are Character-Driven...even some Super Robot Series of the 70s' were a part of it. Specifically, entrants such as Super Electromagnetic Robo Voltes V & Fighting King Daimos had more than their fair share of emotional drive.
But it's common consensus that the 80s were the "Golden Age" of Mecha: Reals took off in a huge way and some of the greatest Supers this side of 70s' Legends like Mazinger Z, Getter Robo & Combattler V made their appearances.
It's now mandatory to tell me specifically the Series that you've seen. |

Well, it's not mandatory but i will tell you...
I've seen almost all of Gundam Wing and 2 others that i can't remember the names of, and a few episodes of that cgi mini gundam thing... It was never that i hated them, they just never appealed to me at all, so much so that i can't remember which was which (except Wing). That's how bored i was (i even forgot the name of one of them while i was still watching it). That coupled with the fact that Gundam shows were airing consantly is why i can't stand Gundam anymore (i hate Big O too, but that's something completely different). And also "yes"; most animes in general are character driven. I reffered to Patlabor and Blue Gender that way cause they both have plenty of episodes where the mechs aren't even used. That's a character driven mech show in my opinion... PS: forgot to mention in my last post that i dig Evangelion, too... |

Here are my suggestions, in addition to the previous ones:
- Brain Powered: from the creator of the Gundam saga with mecha designs by Mamoru Nagano and music by Yoko Kanno. Do I need to say more? - Bubblegum Crisis OAV: more cyberpunkish than a mecha show strictly speaking but a very entertaining and funny show nonetheless with nice designs (both for 'mechas' and characters...), some originality and darkness into the episodes concepts aswell though quality tends to be inequal from one to the other. The very recent remastered set by Animeigo is of very good quality. I don't recommend Bubblegum Crash to a newcomer to the genre but if you like the original you may like this sequel aswell. I still have to watch the Bubblegum Crisis 2040 TV series but I heard it's not very good... - Five Star Stories: a short OAV based upon the manga of the same name by Mamoru Nagano. Though the storyline is rather short compared to the manga, the quality of animation and designs make of it a must-to-be-seen IMHO - the Gall Force series is more SF than mecha strictly speaking but is overally good though the quality of the storyline tends to decrease with additional sequels - Gundress looks like some sort of cross between Bubblegum Crisis and Appleseed and is rather cool despite some animation weakness. Original and unexpected storyline though... - Hades Project Zeorymer presents astounding mecha designs and some of the best mecha action scenes ever (also IMO...) - Kishin Corps has some originality because of its WW2 setting and is very reminiscent of the Super Robots genre. Nice designs and animation too - the Macross franchise remains as one of the most important in the anime industry and may be considered as a rival of Gundam. Have to be seen the original series Super Dimensional Fortress Macross (also remastered by Animeigo...), the movie version Macross: Do You Remember Love? whose animation qualities remain as one of the best outcome even 20 years later as far as traditional animation is concerned, the Macross Plus OAV has great mecha action and an interesting storyline concerning character relationships, the sequel Macross 7 is not recommended to a newcomer or at least for a first step into this franchise (first because it's a sequel, second beacuse it's very controversial in itself, even in the Macross community...) but you may like it, finally Macross Zero is the very latest production and is already famous for its great animation and fighting sequences as well as a great plot which fits perfectly the Macross time-line (as it is a prequel to the original series SDF Macross, you may want to begin with this one...) - the Megazone 23 is rather good and really worth to be seen IMO. It's form the creators of Bubblegum Crisis, Gall Force and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA (a.k.a. Robotech: the New Generation for some people...) - Zone of the Enders: Dolores, i is really funny and original. Its main character also has a lot of appeal IMO. Nice action scenes, good interactions between characters, some orignality into the setting of the story all make of it cool to be watched As a final note, concerning the Gundam franchise, I'd recommend MS Gundam: the 08th MS team OAV: it's an original point of view on the One Year War because there's no ace or newtype into this show, it's more 'common life of average soldiers during war time' than 'I'm the hero of the story and I'm gonna kick the @sses of all the bad guys'. Also, the story happens into Southest Asia and may remind you these movies about Viet-Nam war, if that's your kind of things. Nice animation, cool combat scenes (whose last one is probably one of the best ever IMO...), good characters and interesting plot Enjoy!
