The past 6 Anime series I have watched have all contained atleast one sceen with crossdressing characters.
Ruronie Kenshin - spoiler[Honjō Kamatari] Ragnarok: The Animation - spoiler[Iruga] Fruits Basket - spoiler[Ayame and Yuki Soma] Samurai Deeper Kyo - spoiler[Yukimora Senada] Scrapped Princess - spoiler[Fulle] Samurai Champloo - spoiler[Jin] In theory the chances of hitting all 6 should have been prettly low. Thus I am forced to ask two questions. First, is crossdressing a common gimick in anime. (Think Bugs Bunny) Second, what other animes have crossdressing scenes? Dot hack sign - spoiler[Tsukasa] - This is an example of references that I am not looking for since the situation is not quite the same. Same goes for Ranma 1/2. Final note: This is neithe anti-anime, anti-crossdresser, nor anti-crossdressing-anime. As my name should imply, this is just the kind of question a bored physicist/mathematician/animation fan would ask. |

I guess the fact that the guy caught crossdressing is humour... though it does get old quickly... but yeah, most are just for laughs. |

I beleive there was some in either Dragonball or Dragon Ball Z. Maybe both? I heard there was one in Yu Yu Hakusho but I never watched much of the series so I dunno. |

well in all of the anime i have seen about 10% of them had crossdressing scenes but i haven't seen alot of anime

The percentage of anime/manga with crossdressing scenes is roughly equal to the amount of British comedy sketches involving crossdressing.

If you include women dressing as men then cross-dressing isn't that terribly unusual in anime, especially in historical pieces. I can name three period pieces off the top of my head which involve young women passing themselves off as boys/men: Kai Doh Maru, Otogi Zoshi, and Shura No Toki.
If you're talking about men dressing as women, it happened at least a couple of times in E's Otherwise - and the male character doing it actually made a remarkably pretty woman. If you're looking at anime as a whole and discounting cases of actual gender change, though, then the 10% estimate is probably fair. |
