Sweet, the simulcast announcements are starting! It be nice if they'd given this a date though.

Viz just told ANN that its streaming will begin on January 8.
Edit: Viz said that Lagrange's streaming will begin on January 8 in Japan. We're checking to see if that is also true in North America.

This looks pretty sweet---I hope VizAnime will simulcast it in North America in High Definition!

I was also looking forward to this show based on the designs. I'm a bit worried over what this means for the reliability of the show's BD/DVD release.

Aww man, I was kinda looking forward to that. Why is it so hard for Viz to make their simulcasts available to Canada.

Well, Viz is announcing this quite early. They don't usually license many anime titles, and the ones they have licensed are relatively popular (Bleach, Death Note, Vampire Knight, Naruto, Honey & Clover, Tiger & Bunny, Inuyasha, etc.) so I'm assuming they expect this show to be a hit. Either that or they're just experimenting and trying something new...
I was actually looking forward to this show, so I hope they have a decent stream of this available to watch.

It will have the same reliability as everything else from Viz: they won't waste money putting out shows that fans won't waste money buying.

I take it you missed that it's from Xebec. AKA, the studio that has all the B and C talent of Production IG.

This seems very different from what Viz usually picks up, I wonder what made them go after this title in particular. Sadly Im not really interested in the title myself, but seems like a decent amount of others are.

It's labeled as a joint project, with Production I.G. also providing "Production Assistance." While Xebec is known recently for their fanservicey titles, the chief director worked on Stellvia and Nadesico, both of which were highly popular titles at the time. The scriptwriters, particularly Shôtarô Suga, have also worked on a couple highly-regarded shows.
In any case, I tend to dislike judging a series simply by the studio that produces it. We'll see if it has "shitty art" when it actually airs.

I seriously doubt that since they are already in the streaming business and have been doing it for a while now.
