4 years ago, i vowed that i'd never read more than a half-dozen webcomics a day.

today i was thinking about webcomics and remembered that. a quick count of comics I read suggests i'm a daily/bi-daily reader of around 40 different comics, and a weekly reader of another 10-20 more.

O_o

so, how do i compare to everyone else? am i the most pitiful creature on the face of the earth for spending more time reading comics every day than i spend in formal instruction for my college MAJOR? or am i still within the realms of sanity for reading that many comics?

thoughts, opinions, and lesser-known webcomics that might be interesting are welcome. ;)

PS -- One of my more recent additions: Kodomo*Nomo -- it's cute, but it's also serious at times.. it's something i find quite enjoyable to read. MMm... That and Drowlings.. I love the style of art. :) One? Two? eh. close enough...

Only five myself. 8-bit theatre, Adventures, Megatokyo, Mac Hall and the big daddy Penny Arcade.

I check Penny Arcade, 3fs, Angst Technology, MegaTokyo, Extra Life and Nodwick. I occationally drop in on others. PvP is one that I check whenever I remember, but almost never do.

you're beating me. I only read MegaTokyo, PvP, DubThis.net, and catch ExploitationNow on occasion. Every four months or so I check in on Maison Otaku to see if they have an update. I also ready Dilbert and For Better or For Worse on the web, but those are traditional print comics.

Sinfest, Fluble, and The Hero Santon sorta counts since Salon axed it and now the only place to read it is the annals of Salon's labyrinthine website.

I tend to avoid videogame, anime, and sprite-based webcomics since they tend to be horrible. Especially Megatokyo. I honestly cannot find ONE single redeeming quality of that massive wasteland of unfunny that people seem to love for some reason.

Here are all the comics I read on a regular basis. This is actusally a copy of my "favorites" dir listing, so you'll also notice the date that I started reading any given comic (Some of these dates are incorrect, all the ones listed 15-08-2000 are because I switched to IE from Netscape that day, that was the day I sold my soul).

I have my comics grouped into several categories:

1) Catchup - These are comics I'm way behind on... Right now the only comic in there That I actually read from time to time is Doonsburry, I'm at September 19th, 1976 Shocked. Pretty coold having all 32 years of Doonsbury online, but the scans are too small and a bit hard to read Sad

2) Daily - I read these 5 times a week, several of them publish on Saturday / Sunday so I end up reading 2-3 strips on Monday.

3) M-W-F - I read these on Monday, Wednesday and Friday - Duh!

4) Monday - These I read only once a week on Monday. For the most part its because these comics only update once a week, the exception are Dub This which has a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday schedule (so it's also in my Tuesday-Thrusday folder) and Elf Life. Elf Life updates regularly but I prefer to read it several strips at a time because of the way it is written.

5) Tuesday Thrusday - Guess.

6) Posterity - These are comics I no longer read, either because I got tired of them, or more likely (because I tend to just delete links to the ones I don't like) because the author stopped updating them.

So here's the list:

I'd post links to them all, but that would be too much work :-p I thought I read a lot of online comics, but no where near as many as Cookie, and it only takes me 10-20 minutes a day.

I used to be addicted to webcomics. Now I'm all about Jackie's Fridge and The Bruno Daily Times.

A comic doesn't have to be funny to be redeeming. Personally, I like it because it has an engaging storyline, and nice art. And also, it is funny at times. Maybe you'd like it more if you actually read it from the first strip and proceeded in chronological fashion.

I like Megatokyo for one reason:
I... am.... Piro!

Sad as it is, Piro mimics what I desire my life to be like -- stuck, homeless and stranded in Japan, with an illegal job at the local anime store. And anything with the title "Sad Girl In Snow" must be wonderful. As is anything vaguely related to Kanon.

I'd have a sidekick who must overclock all Athlons in Japan (that, by far, is the best joke comic *ever* on MT. I'll dig up the URL sometime.) and whose need to kill zombies is only exceeded by his l33t factor.

Hmm... Sadly, I think I'm a little like Largo too. -_- (the overclocking athlons part, anyway)

I'd been waiting for someone to say they didn't like MT. I'm a total coward when it comes to saying controversial things. Just ask anyone on the old board.

I read MT with almost frightening regularity. It's like a train wreck, I can't tear my eyes away from it. There's fanboy wish fulfillment, there's otaku spooge, and then there's THIS. Anime freak ends up in Japan, with no fewer than three attractive women latched onto him, a dream job, and assorted other fantasies.

Mix that with the distaste I have for fandom in general, and you have the one strip seeming calculated to make me hate it, but hate it in such a way that I Must. Read. More.

Remember the fat guy from Confederacy of Dunces, and his movie watching? That's me and MegaTokyo.
