Same characters as the movie, same premise, but instead its more of a detective/action story now.
I still enjoy watching it - I give it a woo.

HI! Are you talking about the movie that you saw a long time ago? Yea, I saw the movie, and the movie was wwaaayyy better! I thought the Stand Alone complex was going to be sumthing like that...It's just nothing but talking, boredom, and confusion. I mean they even have an episode called: "Talking, talking, talking"!( or sumthing like that) where there is nothing but talking! BORING!!!
But then again, this is my opinon. You might like it!

It's really boring in my tastes. Don't even try to watch it in the middle and just pick up in the middle of the series.
You won't understand a thing.

I like to think of it as a more high tech CSI. There are a few episodes with a good amount of action and drama, but a lot them are also heavy on dialogue at times (usually on the subject of the "Laughing Man" phenomenon or some underlying philosphical mumbo jumbo that might be incorporated into that case).
But yes, I like it, at least what I've seen thus far. I would not recommend this to anyone that can't stand a lot of talking, though.

I'm a big fan of the entire series
I just like all of it, since it's so cool
and if you aske me, the series is an incredibly rewarding experience, if you are willing to invest time into understanding everything *and for me... it took several watches... but that's besides the point... hopefully*
anyway, the others put it into perspective quite nicely
it's not as dense as the first and second movie *to some extent*
but in it's "totality" the information ACCUMULATES VASTLY *being a 26 episode series* so you pretty much end up with the same level of... dense-ness
errr... okay, as oppose to the movies that deal with issues surrounding the human existence
the series focuses more on political struggles and conspiracies
it still has that human aspect thingy, but then it's not as FOCUSED on as it is in the movies
Anyway, if you liked the movie, you should give the series a shot anyway since it expands on the series quite nicely
in any event, as long as you don't find pages upon pages of dialogue boring, then you're okay *yay*

It's awesome, if you have the patience and inteligence I highly recomend it. It's my favorite at the moment. The universe is facinating, the storyline(s) are well written, the characters are great, the music...well it's from Yoko Kanno, so obviously it's excellent too.

Yeah, that pretty much explains it in the best possible words.

Yeah, that pretty much explains it in the best possible words. |
What it explains is that certain people don't have the attention span to watch it, so that's why they don't understand it.

What's with this high-and-mighty attitude? I watched the entire first season (I like to think of myself as a patient person, and if I have the attention span to watch and love Tenshi no Tamago, I DAMN well have enough to watch GITS:SAC) and I agree that the show is often really, really boring and way too talkative. Boring enough that I would have tossed it aside halfway through had it not been for the Tachikoma running away episode, which drew me back in (in hope that there would be more episodes like that. alas...). Boring enough for me not to care, or even want to care, about the Laughing Man arc. The action scenes, music and animation are really, really nice, but they can't hold up an enitre series.

Yeah, I don't like my animes long and talkative and not having a lot of action.

I recommend the series to if you like ghost in the shell. Did you by any chance have Cartoon Network cause it comes on (or used to) on saturdays. If you dont you can still buy it. If you rather not spend a ton of money buy it off of ebay used. I like the series and you might to0.

Geez, and I thought I was the only one living in a hole and hadn't seen the major anime titles. Well, it can't hurt to see it if you have [Adult Swim], I personally thought it was great. A good, comprehensive plot, I'd say. It gave my brain some excercise, but if you'd prefer not to have to think while watching, this might not be for you. Give it a shot though, I recommend it.

Sadly, it has nothing to do with the film, except the characters.

you have to NOTE though that he was looking for opinions that would be based on the CONTEXT of his liking of the first movie...
so far, the people who just came out and said "DAMN this is a boring ass show" *sorry, can't help myself*
came into the thread to offer an opinion, but completely overlooked the fact that the person who started this thread LIKES the first movie...
so how does simply saying "man you'll hate this, it is so boring" prove to be fair?
I feel that they came into the thread only out of spite since it's one of those "hot shows"
if anything, the only real valid ANTI-GITS:SAC post here is that SUIKODEN guy's since that person was actually looking at it in the context of liking the first movie...
at least the guy says it's BORING COMPARED TO THE MOVIE, not simply "it's boring" without considreing the line of thought that even created this thread
... but then maybe they were looking at it with that in mind and I'm just assuming things, I dunno... I think I'm just paranoid
