This is somewhat arkward, but I don't really mind, since I thought the CPM release was fairly ugly. Still, it explains why the CPM sets went for really cheap prices, because I doubt they'd have the financial means to renew the license on such a popular series.

I'm interested in seeing what FUNimation will do with this, and what direction they'll take it in. They're going to need to be pretty damn creative if they're going tog et the fans to buy it a second time.

I bet they'll sit on the rights until Fox's TV rights to the dub expire, then put it on Toonami or something.

I feel for CPM; they haven't had a big series in quite a long while now, and now their most popular show is in the hands of another company. Ouch.

From what I read over at AoD, the license is more of a preservation thing. They're going to work on restoring the video and any minor edits, sound, and redub certian things using the original english cast, and then release it sometime in 2006. It's so it doesn't fall into obscurity.

I'm Happy with the dvd sets I have from CPM well for 24.99 sales at rightstuf from before beat anything they could release! even if it is remastered

I'm not going to buy the same series again for like 30 dollars a volume again or even sets

its good for people tho that haven't seen the series or want to check it out

Thought so.

It's pretty stupid of them to do that when it's already been out on DVD for years.

What's next? FUNimation presents Evangelion? FUNimation presents Trigun? FUNimation presents Macross Plus?

Maybe they should concentrate their "creativity" and stop making the FMA dub suck so badly. They need to get back the money back from buying Slayers and buy themselves a new VA for Winry.

Doesn't change the fact most people will probably not buy it again.

I know I won't.

I'm far too busy buying Evangelion again. Very Happy

What you fail to realise is that the CPM release, while it was cheaper for a while, are utter shit on a technical level. mirroed sound, ugly video, hardburnt ENglish credits and song titles, it's a shipwreck. What this is, is a re-release only slightly above what CPM were once offering in price, but contains much more appealing aspects to it. I really wouldn't mind if FUNimation got Macross Plus, since the manga ent DVDs of it are total shit, and there's a remastered print + 5.1 Japanese track out in Japan that they could use (to which they could go and adapt for the smashing English dub, since the Manga Ent 5.1 Eng track is utter balls).

Hardly see where the comment for the FMA dub came from, for me atleast it's probably one of the nicest dubs I've heard in a long time.

I wasn't so much taking issue with people not buying it again (really, it's their choice), what I was taking issue with was his statement that the CPM sets were better than anything FUNimation could put out, and that they'd be $30 a disc, which they clearly aren't going to be.

So after looking at http://www.animeondvd.com/...
Quote:
This release is being viewed as a ‘preservation’ action, to be sure the classic series isn’t lost to moratorium and so it can potentially be introduced to new fans.

I like this line of thinking. Remember, guys, not everyone bought it the first time around.

Improved and released at the same price as the current crappier DVDs? I'm sold on this.

I actually hope that if Slayers gets some huge exposure (to the new fans and market) there might be room for doing another TV series. So ya, good news, wether or not i'll get the DVDs again, i'll have to see exactly how better they're going to make them.

I would have liked it more if the ADV rights for the Slayer OVAs were taken away. Their crappy released with the changed spell names and horrible dub shouldnt be allowed to exist.
