Can't wait so see how this turns out. Going off the manga, the series is a pretty good fit for Gainax given how they love to troll. I wish the article used a more accurate description of the plot though.
Hopefully Gainax will actually make a profit this time. |

Gainax is exactly what this adaptation needs. The manga, while fun, is complete horse shit; I don't think even Yuu Yuu Hakusho was this blatant about its transition to a tourney fightan manga. I mean, Medaka Box obviously doesn't take itself very seriously, but there are only so many times you can turn a blind eye to poor writing with the "lol, satire" card. I was much more a fan of the earlier chapters where, yeah, there were some fights, but they weren't dictated by power levels, or negative power levels, or whatever.
So I'm hoping maybe Gainax can bring something to the table that makes the experience more solid. Though I'm really hoping they don't cut much from the earlier chapters, because I'm really anticipating the reactions of the anime-only watchers when, in a single episode, the show becomes Dragon Ball Z. |

I'd be more excited if this was the Gainax I know and love because they made TTGL, Mahormatic, FLCL, and PSG. That Gainax is dead and was reincarnated as Studio Trigger, so I can't say I'm excited for Gainax making a show anymore.

Many key members of Gainax moved on to create another studio. |

Gainax never really put its "real deal" staff on adaptations in the first place, save Kare Kano (which was yoinked from Anno before it ended anyway), and it's not as though any of the people at Trigger will stop doing freelance work, either. |

animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2011-10-07/hiroyuki-imaishi-new-studio-name-website-revealed Key parts of the staff involved in the shows I love from Gainax are now associated with Studio Trigger. They (along with Masayuki and Anno) were what I loved about Gainax, but since they aren't a part of it anymore, I no longer get excited when I see "Made by Gainax".
Mahoromatic has some of its A-Team as well, but you're right. And I know they can still work on Gainax shows, but it just doesn't feel the same since Imaishi and crew aren't a part of Gainax anymore. |

I'm surprised to see that Kuwana stuck around at GAINAX for now. I'm guessing that Imaishi and the people who left might still do some work on this show (like some storyboarding or even an outsourced episode like they did on Idolm@ster), but I'm not expecting too much.

You're severely understating the extent to which the manga deviated from its original premise. It didn't simply start to have more battles; it became a manga ABOUT battles, and suddenly things were being explained with power levels and pseudo logic. The earlier chapters still had a sense of absurdity without being over the top. And I'm not saying that being over the top isn't fun, and that Kumagawa isn't a fun character, but that doesn't mean the manga doesn't have its negative points. Uniqueness doesn't always equal quality. |

Most Gainax adaptations sucked even when they had the "A team" present. I fail to see how anyone can be excited for this.

Strange... Reading the description, this sounds like something similar to Sket Dance, but reading the posts here it sounds more like Bento or something like that... I'll probably catch an episode or two, but based on the character design of the bubble breasted lead, I probably won't like it...

The cleavage of the main female lead gets removed from chapter 58 as does 95% of the fanservice. |

Pretty much all the fanservice it has is Medaka not being ashamed of being half-naked, which is perfectly in character for her. |
