Well, despite the fact that the Laughing Man took a backseat in this set of episodes, I still found the stand-alone episodes quite entertaining. I also liked how the title of Episode 14 was spelled out - using the symbols of the yen, euro, and dollar.
You're right about the Tachikomas in Ep. 15 - that was a hilarious scene where they "pretended" to be more "robotic". It's nice that there is some comedy relief in an otherwise serious series. That's one of the many things I love about GiTS.
Question: Ag2O is the chemical symbol for the compound silver oxide, right? Is this what we commonly call tarnish? It's been 15 years since I took chemistry class in high school, so my memory's a little rusty.

These were nice episodes. Not the best standalones I've seen but still interesting.
Ag2O is silver oxide, I believe. What relevance it has to the actual episode, I have no idea.

The boxer that Batou was assigned to spy on was a Olympic silver medalist that he admired as a hero. Batou was suppose to discover if his personal hero was trading information to some criminals (thus the "tarnish" reference in the title). What was fascinating about this episode was Batou's disillusioned reaction when he discovered that his hero was nothing like what he was expecting. Batou was also able to defeat his hero with a single punch!

That was a good joke about Mamoru Oshii. He gets carried away, doesn't he?

The episodes on this DVD are among the best in the show, I don't see what the reviewer's complaining about. The first season is just as much about the stand alone episodes as about the Laughing Man story.
In fact ep 15 is vital to the development of the main plot, as you will find out later.
If there's any reason to complain about SAC, that'd be the next set of episodes, since the quality of the stand alone stories drops a bit.

Well, I don't think that Carlo was actually complaining about these set of episodes. It read more like he was frustrated about the absence of the Laughing Man case; he did said that the episodes were satisfying enough on their own, and he's right!

The only laughing man episode on the next dvd is the last one...So I guess it'll be the same for Vol. 5. I agree that this dvd was better in terms of quality than vol 5 is.
Ep. 15 had me laughing the whole way through. The idea of the Tachikomas contemplating such serious subjects in depth was just amusing to me. Plus, they all had really high voices - it just seemed so comedically out of place.
Good review
ps - I think the YES (with the Yen, Euro, and Dollar) is the currency of the GITS world. They just combined all 3 or something. I heard that somewhere...
