I'm speechless. I just got the latest issue of Newtype Japan today and when I saw it, my jaw dropped to the floor. Instead of its usual DVD, it came with a 1/144 model of The GAT-X105 Strike Gundam from Gundam Seed made especially for Newtype. The inside of the magazine has paper punchouts that let you construct a docking bay for it. This is quite possibly the coolest thing I've ever seen in my life.
I'm curious if anything like that happened for the USA version as well, or if it was just a Newtype anniversary deal. Do you think they lose money by always adding in features like DVDs and stuff? I mean, what with color gloss pages and everything-- even with the high price on the magazines, you'd think they wouldn't turn the profit they do. Bah, I'm just babbling now.
People, run to the nearest comic book store and get you hands on a copy of this thing. Phenomenal.

Let's see-- no postcards this time and the only poster is the pull-out, which is Sakura Taisen (actually, I flipped through it rather quickly, so thats what I thought it was, and now i'm too lazy to go after it again. ;p). So yeah, they upped the volume to 720 yen, with less of their regular extras, but, but, but, but-- A MODEL!!! And it's cast in silver and gold!!!!!!!!!!!! That's not for sale otherwise!!! *drool*
Interesting-- in the last issue (or maybe it was the one before it), they had decals for Gundam kits as an extra insert. I guess it's no surprise they plug Gundam so much, given their history and name.
*cough* Okay, enough fangirl screaming for me today. IT"S SO PRETTY!!!!!!! Alright, now I'm done.

That's odd, I just picked up Aprils and no model, it had post cards (Cyborg 009) and the centerfold was the men of Saiyuki. Want to switch issues if does have Sakura Wars as the centerfold. *LOL*

Oh, so I guess it wasn't in the US one then. Go chase after the Japanese one then. Cast in shiny silver and gold plastic!

I just got the model from that NewType and for a model packaged in a mag...its pretty cool. The docking bay isn't an easy piece to figure out (gotta use glue and taking it out of the cardboard is a pain), but I was impressed.
Yes, its in the JAPAN NewType...
Maybe the US version will do that...maybe someday.

Yeah, that is soooo bogus. I wish we go tthe free model and SW centerfold instead of the lame-ass Saiyuki one and more stupid post cards.

I would imagine that the US version will be able to do stuff like this when it gets to the ripe old age that Newtype Japan has. ^-^;; Before you know it, those people will be so rich that they'll be packing in random-draw prize androids or something. Now THAT would be cool.
Speaking of human-sized things, does anyone remember the life-size Tokimeki Memorial dolls that had a long time ago? Anyone know a place that actually still sells them? (or anyplace that would allow you to even think of finding one?) I've always thought those things were the coolest things ever.
