I hear lots of talk on forums about what anime is most popular/ has most viewers in Japan and China etc etc. I hear shows such as Naruto, One Piece, Full Metal Alchmist and recently Bleach are on this list. Im wondering if there are any sites i can view that will show the ratings each show is getting and the number of viewers. Also what other anime's are very popular in Japan right now that I may be missing? Thanks

I think that Sazae-san is the eternal cross-demographic number one.

I don't think there's a site showing detailed and scientifically investigated demographics, but ANN has a page of Rating Stats, which contains Most Viewed anime titles seen by users of this site.

Any series with 400+ review is pretty popular or just well known in the internet community.

Bebop, Kenshin, love hina.

The rating is a different story and shouldn't be taking seriously.

I believe your question refers to what is watched more in Japan at the moment as opposed to here. I have a Newtype (Japan not US) reader poll for the most popular series from the Feb and March issues.

Feb:
1. Kidou Senshi Gundam Seed Destiny (Sunrise, 2004)
2. Soukyuu no Fafner (XEBEC, 2004)
3. Kidou Senshi Gundam Seed (Sunrise, 2002)
4. Mai-Hime (Sunrise, 2004)
5. Hagane no Renkinjutsushi (AKA Full Metal Alchemist. Bones, 2003)
6. Kyou Kara Maou! (Deen, 2004)
7. Kidou Senshi Gundam (Sunrise, 1979)
8. Harukanaru Jikuu no Naka de (Yumeta Co., 2004)
9. School Rumble (Studio Comet, 2004)
10. tactics (Studio Deen, 2004)
11. Naruto (Studio Pierrot, 2002)
12. AIR (Kyoto Animation, 2005)
13. Planetes (Sunrise, 2003)
14. Keroro Gunsou (Sunrise, 2004)
15. Tsukuyomi -MOON PHASE- (SHAFT, 2004)
16. Gankutsuou (Gonzo, 2004)
17. BLEACH (Studio Pierrot, 2004)
18. Cowboy Bebop (Sunrise, 1998)
19. Koukaku Kidou Tai S.A.C. 2nd GIG (AKA GITS:SAC 2nd GIG. Production I.G., 2004)
20. Jinki : Extend (feel, 2005)

March:

The first number is its current rank, the second is it's previous rank, and the third is the rank before that.
1. 1. 1. Gundam Seed Destiny
2. 4. 5. Mai-Hime
3. 3. 3. Gundam Seed
4. 6. 6. Kyou Kara Maou!
5. -. -. Mahou Sensei Negima!
6. 15. 15. Gankutsuou
7. 7. 8. Mobile Suit Gundam
8. -. -. Mahoraba ~heartful days
9. -. -. Suki na mono wa suki dakara shouganai (Sukisho)
10. 9. -. School Rumble
11. -. -. One Piece
12. -. -. Prince of Tennis
13. 5. 4. Full Metal Alchemist
14. -. 9. Neon Genesis Evangelion
15. -. -. Starship Operators
16. 12. -. AIR
17. -. -. Howl's Moving Castle
18. -. -. Ah my Goddess!
19. 14. -. Keroro Gunsou
20. 2. 2. Soukyuu no Fafner

In addition, you can periodically check J!-Ent for ratings updates from Video Research LTD. (sort of like Nielsen for Japan) as they become available. (They are way down on the page) Current ratings between Feb 7 - 13 are:

"ANIME: FUJI TV is on top with "Sazae-chan" with a 22.3% rating and in second place with "Chibi Maruko-chan" with a 14.3% rating. TV Asahi's "Doraemon Special" was third with a 13.2% rating. NTV's "Meitantei Conan" was fourth with a 12.9% rating and "Black Jack" was fifth with an 11.4% rating. Fuji TV's "One Piece" is sixth with a 10.6% rating."

Like I said, the Newtype lists are reader polls.

I'm fairly certain those are the ratings in the anime segment only, as opposed to overall ratings like Nielsen gives.
