To my knowledge, except for Otacon (the mother of all anime conventions), there are no anime convetions in DC itself. Unless I'm wrong...

There's both AnimeUSA and Katsucon both just outside of DC. You can hit both on the Metro.

It's "Otakon". There's another convention called Otakucon in FL. The largest Anime Convention is Anime Expo in Anaheim, CA. The mother (ie first) of all anime conventions is A-Kon in Dallas, TX. There are plenty of conventions close to DC. Here's a nice map: http://www.universalanimation.org/map.php There are seven (7) 3-day anime conventions within a 3-hour drive from DC: AnimeUSA (http://www.animeusa.org) Katsucon (http://www.katsucon.com) Otakon (http://www.otakon.com) AnimeMidAtlantic (http://www.animemidatlantic.com) AnimeNEXT (http://www.animenext.org) Tekkoshocon (http://www.tekkoshocon.com) Animazement (http://www.animazement.com) |

That's a common misconception. A-Kon is the longest running anime convention, but the first one was Yamatocon on August 13, 1983. It was held again on March 8, 1986. The same group held a third event named "Animagic" in September 1989. (...which was in no way related to the later two conventions named "Animagic".) You can find a list of all pre-1995 anime conventions here: http://www.anime-cons.com/events/calendar.shtml/0008094 |

and speaking of the Cherry Blossom festival, the Freer website has finally been updated with the info about the day, which will include Tokyo Godfathers, GITS2, Tree of Palme, and Appleseed, with Gilles Poitras doing film intros and signing books.
Talk about wow! I'm impressed and pleased. http://www.asia.si.edu/events/films.asp |

I could not release the information at the time of my original post, but sometimes I wished that I lived closer to DC sometimes....
