The series starts out great, and is really a nice refreshing taste from ordinary shonen. I can answer any question you have. I'll just put in here that apparently there are more girl fans than guy for this series, and that the "yaoi" fangirls who love this are a scary majority, and can eventually turn you off from the series, like they did with me.

I heard that Death Note was forbidden in China due its deadly atmosphere. It created another debate about censorship.
Anyway, it this manga deserved more the censorship than others. I see it's getting very popular, and I'll just be waiting until the newspaper report: "Teacher dies after receiving teenager death note".
Haven't read it, thought. So I can't say wether if it's good or bad.

It is NOT banned in China, it's just banned in some schools. And it doesn't need pretty much any censorship since it's pretty much void of violence, which makes it a rather intresting comic. It's pretty much all diaolouge and questions of logic.

Death Note starts out great, but it drags down a bit after a few volumes. I'm not activly reading it at the moment, but I hope that it turns out good at the end and doesn't just regurgitate old content to keep it going. And like littlegreenwolf said, the fangirls are utterly psychotic, so I'd recommend just reading it for yourself and not letting the opinions of the fans influence you.

Death Note started out really nicely for me but there was a certain turning point in the manga which I won't spoil that just really ticked me off to the point that I just stopped reading. But someone's told me that it's all back to normal now which is good but to wait 30 chapters for that I'm not going to bother anymore, but I would still recommend it. Guess I'm becoming too picky with my manga tastes .

Eh, I didn't care too much for it. Probably the hype kinda kill it.

I really like Death Note, it's always so suspenseful! In volume 7 or something, L or known as Ryuuzaki dies.

I thought it had a really intricate plot, but yeah, I get what some of you mean by it ticking you off. At some point it did annoy me. But I still like it a lot nonetheless. Nowadays, though, the lines between shonen and shoujo are very blurred. In Yamato Gensuki it had both a guy and a girl as a main character and the plot was gender neutral mostly.
