hi, don't know if this has been posted, didn't look too much farther than the first page... anyway, i was just wondering if anyone's been watching any good anime lately... i've been keeping up with beck, bleach and peach girl, but i wonder if anyone knows of some more. unlicensced ones. i've done some looking and most of the ones i've read about seem pretty dumb....

Nope. I'm not watching any good anime. There are no good anime being released right now.
Seriously, I'm watching mainly old school and bizarre anime that has little mass appeal. And I don't want to sound mean, but I think the best way to find good anime is to watch lots of anime. |

It may be a bit old (last year), but I've just finished watching GANTZ, and I must say it is one of the better anime's I've watched.

Then don't try Air, it IS really dumb and childish. I suggest Gankutsuou, Monster, Otogizoushi. |

lots of anime is "dumb"; it's too bad that you might get used to it. Look at some licensed titles if your time is so valuable. |

Here's some good stuff that I've seen:
Great Teacher Onizuka (this is one of the only animes that stuck to the original manga) Samurai Champloo (Cowboy Bebop + Wu Tang Clan) FLCL [Fooly Cooly] (One of the coolest cartoons ever with a soundtrack by the greatest band in the world [the Pillows]) Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (Episode 12: Watch this indie flick just waiting to happen and be amazed) Here's some films: Anything by Hayao Miyazaki (start with Porco Rosso; my favorite of the bunch) Cowboy Bebop: the Movie (an anime film where you don't even have to watch the original series to get its point) Anything by Satoshi Kin (Millennium Actress, Perfect Blue) Interstella 5555 (Daft Punk's anime flick. It's like Ziggy Stardust with a techno twist). |

Mahou Sensei Negima is really good stuff, and I'd Highly recommend Samurai Champloo, as well as Mahou Shoutengai Abenobashi.
