Question: My dad is a fan of Astro Boy, and I was wondering if the remake is the same as the original.

Thanks!!

No, not really.

See, each 3 different versions of Astro Boy (the 1960's B&W, 1980's Colour and 2003/4 CG) versions are all based on the original manga, but each have differences, which I can't list because I'm really not in-the-know with Astro Boy.

Yes and no.

In the original, Doctor Tenma lost his son Tobio in an accident. He then revives his son as a robot named Astro Boy, but disowns him after he realizes his son will never grow up. Tenma sells him to the circuse where he is later adopted by Doctor O'Shay.

In the 2003 version currently being released on DVD, it starts with Doctor O'Shay reviving Tobio and the backstory behind Tobio is slowly revealed as Doctor Tenma keeps his eye on Astro Boy. This series is definetely worth seeing as you can follow the same characters and plot elements of the original, with a few new twists here and there.
