Technically, no. Isaka was a (very) minor character in the Romantica series; this is from a one-shot manga. Even fans of the show don't particularly care about him. What a waste of an episode...

Wouldn't this have made more sense to have been released as an OVA or bundled with a volume of the manga?

This show is getting ridiculous. I can't stand the inclusion of the love triangle (Hatori, Yuu, and Chiaki) and now another episode pretty much wasted.
The changes in either story or focus from the manga are fine (and in fact, are nice) but divulging in to other stories during a very short season run is just superfluous. It's very interesting and unique that Nakamura has created so many stories that revolve around Marukawa publishing but they don't need to all be on Sekaikoi at the same time.

Ouch! I really adored the two of them and am glad to see their story get animated but I'm confused as to why they're putting it in Sekai ichi...I agree with ringoiero360 that it should've been something separate. What are they going to do about the opening since Isaka and Asahina aren't even in it? Mixed feelings everywhere.

I concur. While I enjoy the Hatori, Yuu, and Chiaki story arc, I feel it would have been better served as an OVA along with the Junjo Mistake arc.

Dang, so I guess this means Junjo Romantica is a done deal then; no season 3 if this is the last little thing for it T^T
It seems kinda random to shove it in with Sekai Ichi though. I've season most of it, but from what I've seen Isaka didn't have more of a role in it than he did in Junjo. I think they should have just made an OVA, but oh well.
So like others, I'm kinda confused, yet happy because I loved Isaka and Asahina in JR. I still think that they should have made more JR episodes though...Or at least re-license the manga (THANKS TOKYO POP....)

I did read this on another site and I was wondering the same thing I guess the creators thought maybe it was too short to make it an OVA and just have it as an episode would be better but it's in another characters from a different series why would you do that? I am sure if they had produced an OVA the fans would snatch it up. I am not too sure having cross overs within your own properties is a good thing.
