Wow. This is huge news.
Fairy Tail is only just going over 100 eps, so for a show like this, it's still in its infancy.
Similiar shows like Hitman Reborn and D.Gray-man never managed a film, and yet look at Fairy Tail go!
Exciting news indeed!

Mo' Fairy Tail = mo' better. It'll be interesting to see how the larger budget of a movie will translate visual-wise.

Yeah, people don't seem to realize how big this is. The fact its August 2012 is about the time they'd announce a renewal, so theres no way they'd have the movie and then cancel the series, so its pretty much guaranteed to get to 200 episodes then... and if the ratings stay high, it might just do a full manga run.

Yeah this news just caught me off guard but it looks like it has definetly hit the big time seeing as its getting a movie. Looks like Mr Ishihira's hard work is paying off for him with it being renewed (again) and even licensened. If only it got a TV Deal (for outside japan), then it would be even bigger but seeing as Mashima loves him some tits and ass shots thats not likely. At least its doing a lot better than rave did and with the dramatic increase in writing quality of the recent arc it looks like fairy tail is here to stay for at least 2 more years

In this day and age being a manga outside of SJ that has a 100+ long anime is a big deal. Keep in mind that all mention of Gildartz was removed because the expectation was that the series wouldn't last 48 episodes. Not surprising that Fairy Tail is getting a movie when it's doing as well as it has.

This just goes to show how meaningless ratings are for daytime TV anime as Fairy Tail's ratings have been low for months. What matters is how popular the anime makes the manga and if it increases merchandise sales.
I remember when the Kekkaishi anime was on and even though the anime often rated at One Piece levels there never really was a significant increase in either manga or merchandise sales and so the anime was cancelled after just one season.

What? That needs to be specified?
I get that Fairy Tail's on a real high right now, but a live-action film? I'd be utterly shocked and amazed if this wasn't animated.
