I love anime of course, and I wish these projects well, but government really should not be in the business of funding anime, much less involved in so-called cultural affairs which includes that overseas promotion program. While the $1.3 million spent so far, with 3 more projects to be funded later, is peanuts relatively speaking, the money could still be better spent elsewhere (or simply not spent along with others to lower taxes) and it opens the door to all sorts of problems when the program becomes more widespread or influential.

If y'all are so intent on doing the vampire thing, why not just make another movie from the Vampire Hunter D novels? There's a bunch of good ones y'all can choose from. |

culturally, i think anime is one of japan's biggest (if not the biggest) export so i think it makes sense for the government to subsidize it. after all i think korean dramas only ever matured so much because the korean government took the time to subsidize them too. now i believe they are so popular they stand on their own
subsidizing anime really works out well because anime is really really cheap to produce. the annual $3.25 million dollar budget for this program (i think) only costs like the tax payers 3 cents a year but that money makes a huge impact on production because anime is so cheap. i also think it keeps the production local so it isnt outsourced and the industry isnt hollowed out. it creates real jobs and allows japan to advertise it and its culture to the rest of the world in a big way for relatively nothing. |

If the Blood-C movie is anything like the series that just ended, I can say with confidence that this is the most outrageous waste of Japanese taxpayer money ever.

I have to agree, Blood-C is not the best choice for a film to be supported by the government. I love and own a copy of Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust, and would love to see another well animated film. Reusing the poorly reissued material with Clamp designs of the Blood series? I'm sorry but simple a waste of money. I Liked Blood+, but the original Blood and Blood-C are very mediocre. |

Yeah, no reason to give welfare to Blood-C. Regardless of whether or not it's good-since I haven't seen it yet-it's a property which should have enough appeal or recognition on its own to make its money back. But if it's not doing so hot, then why make a movie in the first place?

Must more Blood-C be inflicted upon the innocent masses? I'm happy that the government is sponsoring anime projects and Budori Gusuko is definitely one which sounds worth investing in but Blood-C isn't worth investing large amounts of money into. I'd rather that the title would be left discarded and forgotten only to be mentioned once ten years later in a list of titles best left forgotten.

Could go either way, I mean I see some pros and all but.... Does seem a little odd to me. Maybe its just me though. And I simply need to get out more. Seems like a strange mix but hey, if it works all power to em'. Though... lmao  , Blood-C?
Blood-C? Really? Oh my god, lol. As much as I sort of liked the series, in a way, and I also kinda really wanna see the film..... Even I think that that is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. If gov. is going to mingle at all with anime, I don't think this is one of the best choices. Just sayin'. I could see like maybe a Miyazaki film or something equally up there, but wow.... Lol, that movie had better be worth it  .

Really? Everybody's hatin' on Blood-C?
Admittedly, the first few ep's weren't worth it...but after that it became the greatest, most disturbing, gory, mindf*** I've ever watched! I can't wait to see those uncensored death scenes! That's enough to give someone nightmares! Finally horror that's ACTUALLY horrifying! {As far as the Blood series' goes...I watched Blood: The Last Vampire and it was alright, but didn't keep my interest much. Blood+ I really liked (mostly for Hagi and Moses because I'm fangirl). But, Blood-C (after say episode 5 or 6) just kept me guessing! What the heck is going on? And things like, "Damn! Did she just get ripped apart??? Whoa!!!" So, I sort of really loved it!} |

Clearly the Japanese government enjoyed the show. I can just imagine the politicians holding Blood-C viewing parties.
 It's either that or they simply wanted to be associated with something by CLAMP.
Well, whatever. I look forward to the movie. |

That's a good way to look at it in real, non-otaku terms. It's the government using its power to create jobs. It just happens to be lost on being used to produce a lackluster movie adaptation of a lackluster series. Or maybe I'm just saying that because I lost track of the show on Episode 2 and never paid the $0.25 to catch back up. |
